Hi! I'm starting a space marine army and i'm not sure what chapter I want my army to be. I was thinking along the lines of Salamanders or Imperial fists (possibly White Scars). If you now any other cool chapters feel free to suggest them. Thanks!
Oh and Raven Guard also looks pretty cool.

Keep in mind that you can use the rules for any of the armies (like taking Vulkan and loading up on flamers and meltas), and can paint them up however you would like (make them ultramarines if you want).

Maybe I am just reading it wrong, is that what you are asking?

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I am just asking for suggestions on what chapter to collect and why, but that sounds like a good idea...

I think popular opinion would tell you Vulkan is the strongest, going for fists or scars wold probably be more orginal.

Do you paint well? Imperial Fists are a great chapter with an awesome history and a very striking paint scheme, but painting all that yellow can be a REAL pain in the ass...

Or, hell - make up your OWN chapter!

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

I started out with painted up white scars, but played them like imp. fists, so now i'm stripping them and painting them yellow....

I just wanted my army to reflect my play style. I run a razor heavy/troop heavy list with an Imperial fist version of shrike (called him Strike 'cause i'm lame...)

My suggestion is to find your play style, and then find the army that fits it fluff wise if that matters to you. If not, paint them pink and run pedro and Kahn...it doesn't matter.

Some fluff suggestions though:

Imperial fists: defense and hard hitting, I use mostly use razor backs with split tac squads for static back line defense, but I use shrike for fleeting infiltrating assault squads and fleeting assault termies. So i'm not a "true" imp. fist cause i think Lysander is a bit overpriced.

Crimson fists: You like sternguard, yes you do! Similar play style to imperial (they are imperial second founding)

Ravenguard: You like assault squads and drop pods, lots of drop pods

Salamanders: You like melta guns and flamers in all forms. I suggest a master of forge to go with that and a side of drop pod Ironclads with dropping heavy dreds for dessert.

White Scars: Bikes are a girl's best friend. Bike everything. this is a very fun list to play with the mobility and higher toughness, but shines at higher points levels

Ultramarines: If you like to be everybody else, then do so. I don't knock these guys though, you can mix any troops anyway you want and it's still fluffy. Lots of bonus characters to if you like the internal support options.

Iron Hands: Land Raider spam, enough said.

Just about everyone else is a variation of those. I'm sure there are others that I have left out, hopefully someone can chime in to different play styles and what chapters reflect those tactics.

Currently Play/Own
= 3500 = 3500 = 4000 = 2500 = 1000 = 500 = 3000 = 2000 = 1000 = 2500 = 1500

Go with the angry marines, they have their own rules that you can download some where. Awesome rules.

Ive always liked going for chapters with alot of fluff.

Salamanders, White scars, Imperial fists and Raven guard are all fluffy chapters.

I would go with White scars.

While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

No offence, but it's a lot easier to just use Iyanden Darksun or even Macharius Solar Orange as a base with some Golden Yellow over the top.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Its a better idea to post comments about painting and modeling threads like this in the threads themselves, rather than trying to hijack a thread where it isnt relevant in the tactics forum.

@OP:

If you're looking to just enjoy the game as a general hobbyist then pick the army and paint scheme that you want to play and paint. It will be much more satisfying for you like that.

If you want to win at tournaments, paint scheme doesnt matter as much and you will want to run vulkan because he is so powerful..

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
