So I understand the basic rules behind squadrons, but I am a little confused by cover saves. So in the rule book, it talks about using the rules for vehicles to determine if each squadron member is in cover and then to use the rules for normal units to figure out if the entire squadron is in cover, but I want to make sure that I understand this right.

So say for example I have a squadron of Leman Russes, two to be exact. One of these Leman Russes are in 100% view of the enemy while one of them is behind a building with 0% visible by the opposing forces. No IIRC, 50 percent or more of the unit has to be in cover for a unit to receive a cover save, which in this the one Leman Russ behind cover puts the squadron in cover. Am I reading this correctly? Also, assuming they did not move, giving them cammo netting gives them a 3+ cover save correct? I just want to make sure that I understant this. I understand the weaknesses of squadrons (damn immobilized counting as vehicle wrecked), but I am a little confused by the saves as unit rule and wanted to make sure I was reading it correctly.

Thanks

Edit: Granted Russes with a front AV of 14 dont really need cover, but I needed something with regards to vehicles that work in squadrons and since I play IG it was the easiest athough I could have figured out something else I'm sure....

Yes, you are correct

You determine if each member of the squadron (=unit) is in cover. You then determine if the majority (50%+) of the unit counts as in cover, and if so the whole unit does.

Just remember that Members of the same squadron do not give each other cover.

I do remember that much. I just seemed a little overpowered, but then again I always have to remember that you distribute glances and penetrating hits evenly as well. I guess it kinda evens out. I think it would be kinda cool though having Leman Russes with 3+ cover saves, but the trade-off there is that I cannot move meaning that if someone were to get into assault range then they would auto hit assuming I did not move.

Edit: Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.

I have a similar question, and I don't mean to thread hijack if I am.

If I have a valk. that moves 18-24" and another that moves 12" in the squad (this is possible and if you need I can draw it out for you) does the squad get the 4+ save as well as the single valk. still fire?

Had a friend of mine use it in a game. We weren't sure, but I let him do it anyway, pathfinders don't care.

Currently Play/Own
= 3500 = 3500 = 4000 = 2500 = 1000 = 500 = 3000 = 2000 = 1000 = 2500 = 1500

All Vehicles must move at the same speed band (Page 64, First Sentence about movement). If one vehicle goes 13" and the other goes 12", the whole squadron counts as moving Flat out, so none may fire.

Ah, thank you Gwar! as usual you have the correctness

Currently Play/Own

The eye of terror.

Also don't forget that in a squadron of two vehicles, one of the vehicles does not have to be fully obscured, only 50%+ obscured, so it's potentially possible to have two russes capable of firing at the enemy while the squadron is in cover because of one russ being obscured.

The current majority rules for cover would seem to indicate that 2 squadrons of 2 vehicles, packed tightly into a rectangle, would both get cover saves while being able to fire at least some weapons.

It seems like the current intertwining squads method for infantry cover saves.

Am I wrong?

do people play on tables with no cover or something? Sure you can do that.
