Hello everyone. I've been enjoying the fantastic blogs here and I decided to add my motivation of completing my current project by putting up one by myself. I used to have dakka profile back in the previous incarnations or so, but now had to create new one just for this.

As short introduction, I'm 24 year old guy from eastern Finland and on my (hopefully) last year in the technical university studying chemical engineering. This is my 10th anniversary as a hobbyist. Eldar were my first army for the 40k and I think I still have some models painted in the very beginning 9 ears ago (I started with Dwarfs for fantasy). Most of my eldar are from time between 2001-2004 when I was very active tournament player. Alaitoc used to be my weapon of choice back then so I have plenty of starcannons and rangers from that time on my shelves. Later I put my eldar on shelf and concentrated on Tau army and more lately to Word bearers. On the way I have aqcuired enough Eldar for new 2k army thanks to editions changing and different units getting viable. The aim for this project is to paint tournamnet army of 1,5k-2k with my current standards and at the same time finish up all the models that I have to have ~4k army for Apocalypse.

Well on to the project. After reading Migsula's (whose eldar caused the inspiration to get some new models done) =I=munda campaign reports I decided that I could add even more painting motivation by starting some kind of campaign. The second aim of campaigning is to make some new terrain as the ones that I got are starting to get really aged. Seeing flocked terrain pieces gets my hair rise...
The campaign will be some sort of story campaign happening in few planets and moons. More of it when I see my friend who is getting back from summer work in Helsinki this weekend. I can say though, that it'll include arid rural world with some kid of sci-fi farm, moon board with some kind of planetary defence system bunker and hive world with ash wastes from the moon board and gw cityfight buildings, which are built by my friend.

The army will have mostly aspect warriors and grav tanks because those are things that I love in eldar but because of Alaitoc don't have so much painted. I have finished squad of Shining spears, Dire avengers and Fire dragons at the moment and present you the pics:

The fire dragons, with exarch armed with Dragon's breath flamer:

The Dire avengers, only half of the squad in the photo as the 5 additional guys doesn't really bring much in to the pic and just make the photographing more difficult.

The Shining spear exarch, the other two have so high flying stands (great in this edition of wh40k ) that they didn't fit in to the pic.

Next in line are scorpions and some more avengers:

And as an added bonus, some highlights of the eldar from past:

The "tournament" army will have in additon to those shown 2 serpents, falcon, fire prism, 5 pathfinders, group of guardian defenders with warlock, converted farseer doubling as Eldrad and just for the kicks cheap walking Autarch.

Comments and advice are welcome.

Thanks for comments. Some new stuff:

I got the Scorpions done:

different view:
http://jamo.1g.fi/eldar/scorpions1.JPG

Also done some progress on the terrain for the first board, some on progress pics of the buildings can be found here:
http://jamo.1g.fi/kuvat/maasto/

Plan is to have the first board done in few wees so we can start our campaign with some kill team action.

Next in line of painting is some more dire avengers, this time from the new plastics. I'll also have to assemble few more of them. Also have 2 wave serpents and a fire prism waiting for assembly and some experiments with an airbrush. Just apllied for a 1,8k point tournament that is held in 17th of October so now I'll have a deadline also.

I'd like to have some tips on applying decals as I'm rubbish on the freehand department and I'd like to have some iconography on tanks. Also would like to hear if someone has any experiments on converting warlocks/seers from the high elf wizard plastics.

Thanks in advance

Simple, traditional schemes that don't try to be anything outrageous and end up looking all the better for that. There's a real warmth to the Dire A plumes and your basing is beautiful.

Very nice work.

Thanks for the feedback. Still needing help about the decals.

Some work has been done this weekend.
Bought the high elf mage kit and already did some work. Got some inspiration from DoW2 opening trailer and decided to run my farseer bareheaded. He'll be counting as Eldard, hence the staff. Sorry about the colours, my camera has took few bumps too much, but I guess it doesn't matter on this occasion.

I'll sculpt some rune armour on the belt as I don't want to file off the neclace dragon as it's quite nice. I'm really not sure about the staff, but haven't got anything better for it atm either. The palsticard fin on his back will get some gemstones sculpted when I'll get there. The feet probably need also some work, as he looks bit unrealistically leaning back at the moment.

Also done some reinforcements for the dire avenger squad and started doing my autarch.

Also included the back of the farseer. Shoulder mounted fusion gun is inspired by the alaitoc army in the rulebook. it still needs some work, looks bit ankward. Also the head is still under pondering. I would love to have the avenger exarch head as basis, but bought the sprue used and it missed few bits so have to cope without. I've already changed the plume from avenger head to the fin from the statue in the avenger sprue, but it still need some 'bling'. I would have some helmet wings from helf Tyrion as option but they look quite goofy. I could also steal the exarch head from the twin catapult exarch for the autarch and give the other exarch some less blingy helmet.

But well comments and propsals are welcome.

Well, I love the farseer pose and kitbashing fu is very very good.

I don't like that he's bareheaded though, personal taste influenced by the old fluff that the eldar always covered their faces to go to war.

Hey man! Good to see you here.

I like the extra effort on the basing and both the firedragons and the scorpions are looking quite nice indeed!

Firstly, thanks for comments.

Long time since last update. I spent my hobby time these last weeks playing. Got ten or so matches under my belt (and few more of Space hulk) and got touch again with how the game works. Usually by playing games the list changes so off went guardians and in went guardians with jetbikes. Of course that means that I had to do some bikes as my old jetbikes are even more dated than other models. Also have been building the tanks, got all the weapons magnetized and today tested airbrushing for the first time. It's quite handy when you have to paint multiple tanks yellow...

Some results, again bit bad pics, but as it's all wip stuff it shouldn't matter.

Also painted the pilots. These are _really_ speedpainted, four pilots took something like 15min to do. White undercoat, basic colors with diluted paints and then gryphon sepia wash on top of everything and voilá all ready. Don't want to spend lots of time on models that are seen only from square cm window .

Also started the pilots for the jetbikes. The high elf archmage on steed from the plastic box wasn't so easy to fit into jetbike as I thought, so I'll have to sort it out somehow. Otherwise simpole headswaps with the orginal riders. I have modern guardians on the older squad that I have, but I like that the pilots have their pilot jackets, and on the other hand I didn't have any guardian bits for it. The storm guardian head on the warlock is bit cheap, but I don't have the skills for extensive warlock head converting with gs and neither don't want to spend even more money for metal warlock.

I now have just under a month to finish this army. In addition to tanks and jetbikes I have 9 avengers undercoated, farseer and autarch to finish with gs and hopefully have time to do some objectives. Shouldn't be proble, but on the other hand I should also write a bachelor's thesis about heat and mass balances of liquefaction of biomass at the same time

Yup. It definetly feels really good to have good even coat of yellow in just few minutes. It also makes me really sad when I see my old falcon that has to fly with these three new ones...

Whew, got some tanks done. At least done until I return to them and add some weathering and decals etc.

First up is my falcon. Trusty warhorse that has been in tournaments since 2002. I touched up the paint job little bit. It is clearly shown that this model has seen some action and has lick or two of paint on it but on the battlefield it goes just fine I think.

Then the fresh tanks. I airbrushed the yellow on them, and then followed up with two washes, first with gryphonne sepia and then mixture of golden yellow and bit of red. After washes I touched up the messy parts with golden yellow and added some subtle highlighting with yellow+bit of white. Metals are just mithril silver with black wash. They might still need bit of something.
So first the serpents, the weapons are magnetized, and magnetizing has been done bit stupidly as it was my first attempt on this area.

And then the prism. Turret is fully magnetizeed and I have bitz to turn the other falcon also to fire prism, so I can field any mixture of two falcons to two prisms. The prism is first painted yellow, then had washes of dark red, red and orange on it. After those I painted the "stripes" with different mixtures of yellow and white.

These done I have still some stuff to finish until the tournament one week from now. Not much though, 9 avengers, an autarch and some already started jetbikes. Looks plausible

Thanks!

4 days til tournament so the army is starting to get completed. I painted my autarch yesterday and I'm quite satisfied after the 42 gemstones. It's done from avenger plastics and strom guardian fusion gun. Inspiration came from the Alaitoc army in the rulebook.

And when I got the yellow man done I had to take picture of the different colours of the war.

Still 9 avengers, 4 jetbikes, 8 flying stands and some touch ups to old rangers and farseer to do. If I have some time left, I'll do some objectives also.

Jetbikes and the touching up should be ready after this day, flying stands need black spray that I'm lacking at the moment, but all in all I guess I'm not even in a hurry.

New stuff, jetbike squadron.

Nothing too special. Warlock is made from some high elf bitz combined with hands from Vyper pilot. Shuriken cannon is from the wave serpent sprue. Bases I'll do today as I didn't have black spray.

All done, at least for this tournament. After this I'll paint my remaining 20 or so eldar (hawks, spiders, reapers, few vypers&bikes) for apocalypse to have 5k eldar army for christmas.

Bigger picture by clicking on the photo. It's bit shaken but the overall feel should be just fine.

All that yellow looks stunning on the table.

Nice and coherent looking force, the yellow helmets tie the units together nicely.

Christmas is closing in and so is the annual Epicalypse game. This year I've promised to bring 5000 points of eldar. After finishing my army for the tournament month ago it has been bit quiet on my painting desk (well I painted close to 40h in four to five days). Now it's one month time so I'll have to start doing something again. I started with my remaining jetbikes that'll finish up my wild rider datasheet (3 vypers, autarch, 2x3 jetbikes, 3 warlockbikes). I basecoated them yellow with airbrush week ago and now got first of them done. So may I represent the Wild rider chief himself, sadly in bit of a dramaic lightning as it's raining and dark here in the North.

and from the other side:

Kitbashing galore!

Soon to be accompanying: 2 warlock bikes, vyper, 7 hawks, 8 spiders, 3 reapers and remaining 4 scorpions.

well done on all of them, can only hope when i get my order in ill be able to do half that sort of work

We hide amongst the night
When light is gone

The Light is within us

We run the ruin of Fire
In the darkness

Foes burn in our passing "

There are many who are weak; and many are their temptations. Despise the weak for they shall flock to the call of the Daemon and the Renegade. I really enjoy this painting style, so clean and not overexagerated, it gives me a feeling of the models being more realistic compared to Eavy Metal style, which is amazing in detail but leaves the models looking a bit more cartoonish (well, that's just my opinion haha). All in all I think it's great!
