Hi all, first post here, some of you may know me from the B&C. Anyway, I decided to make a WiP of my Sons of Orar Veterans. Before I start, I don't game, so I don't care whether things don't fit in with game rules or whatever, I'm here to show my work. These are for display, hence the amount of time I spend, and the bases I use. Here's the finished minis so far:

Welcome to Dakka, Ashen-Shugar.

I would love to know how you did the shoulder cloth flags (?) as I want to do something similar for my SM.

I am moving your thread to Dakka P&M BLogs so you can continually refresh it without getting accused of Thread Necronisation.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Cheers for moving it

For the cloth:

Khemri Brown base - Highlight by adding incresing amounts of Dheneb Stone, then Skull White.

And while I'm at it, I may as well post up the rest, as I get asked a lot how to do the red and white:

Red: Base of Mechrite Red - Black Wash - Re-coat with MR - Highlights done by adding bubonic brown to MR - Shaded using Baal Red Wash.

White: Simple really; work codex grey up to skull white.

Black: Chaos Black - 50/50 mix of CB and Adeptus BG - ABG

nice to see you postin' your minis here as well...
it's always good to see some of the CMON crew get into Dakka, where there is a bit more interaction...

i think your marines will be a big hit here...

my only beef with these guys is that the reds seem a bit flat, but that could be a photo issue...

this is a huge project, and well worth the time you are takin' to do top quality work...

which OOP metal Captain are you gonna paint???

cheers

Paint like ya got a pair!

Crisp, detailed, yet not overwhelming.

Kinda have to agree with jah-joshua on the red.

Still love it.

Cheers Jah and person person

You know thats the second bit of proper criticism I've got on these minis, and even though I'm happy with the red (Don't ask ) I still appreciate that you are being honest. This spot seems more active than CMoN, so I'll be around more often methinks. The captain is the helmetless one with power sword from the old metal command set.

I think these are awesome, I have but one question, is no. 5 a converted mini, he looks different to the GW images, or do you get more customisation choices in the box than I thought?

His arms were warped in the box when I got it, and there were severe gaps where they join the shouder, so I had to adjust the angle and fill and sculpt the gaps in with a ton of putty. It looks OK though now IMO.

Cheers for looking.

Those look fantastic, easily the best painted red I have ever seen. The bases really add the model, they look as clean as the model rather than the ugly GW bases.

One question tho, are you going to repaint the only one with NMM or make them all NMM?

Ireland

I'll leave him as he is for the minute. He was the first marine I'd ever painted and had planned to paint all these in NMM, but then I realised metallics would be a little easier and would probably look more realistic. I think the one with NMM is my second worst out of the 7 I've painted, but because he has NMM he gets the highest rating on CMoN :( . I much prefer metallics, so the only change if any will be to repaint him with metallics.

These guys look great. I love the warmachine style bases, they're so much nicer looking than GW's plain ole slant edge ones. They look perfect for marines too, no toes hanging over the side, always been a pet peeve of mine.

Well, you painted the NMM so well that I have to scroll up to see what one you painted it. I love the look of NMM, but don't have the skill to do it.

What do you think you will be painting next? I would love to see some red vanguards. Keep up the good work man...

So, believe it or not I actually have been painting. I'm working on a forgeworld venerable dreadnought for a certain online competition called 'The Golden Bolter'. IMO its my best work yet, and I've been trying painted battle damage and weathering powders to add a realistic look.

Very nice! I especially like the dread legs. The blending on them is amazing, and the scratches are great. How long have you been painting?
