So after playing an apocalypse game recently, I realized my CSM force really needs something to sit at home and guard objectives while my elite troops go out and take the others. I got absolutely schooled by someone who did just that - he used a mix of IG, nids, and CSM and while the cheap, SCORING guard units cruised around in chimeras or walked about on foot, the dangerous stuff fought off my attack and made all my base belong to him.

SO, I've thought of a themed IG army to go with my CSM Emperor's Children force. It's more of a harrassment force, focussing on cunning, ruthless commanders, cannon fodder, and a bunch of Imperial criminals! Any suggestions with how to help with the theme [I thought about sentinels, but ran out of points fast!] or a way to make the army more effective without breaking said theme are much appreciated! Also, I need to find 70 points. Suggestions for where to get that, too, would be great because I don't know what to drop!

HQ
Lord Commissar - 70

I don't know what to drop! I'm thinking maybe altering the weapons loadout of the squads. The idea was that the empty chimeras drive forward along the board edges, ready to pick up Penal Legion that arrive from reserves, while the infantry squads sit in the back and shoot. Creed's command squad gives orders to the lascannons, while Chenkov orders the infantry or the conscripts.

If a Commissar Lord is joined to a squad of Conscripts that are in close combat, but he himself isn't in combat, and Chenkov sacrifices the squad at turn start, what happens to the commissar lord? Is he free to leave? Does he die with the squad? The idea is that hopefully I can use them as a shield that gets charged, holds if I want them to, and can be removed at the start of the turn to let me blast whatever was there.

That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.

HWT's good. Your squads are innefective and penal legionaires are for fluff/joke armys. it may work in your 5000 point combined force, but I'd have to see the other half of this list to give you an honest critique. As a stand alone force this is trash.

I think you have too many points tied up with penal legionairres. They are good, but I don't think they're THAT good. Whats the plan with the chimera bound missile and grenade launchers? Static firebase?
