Hi all!
Long story short; a friend of mine and I wanted to play a little bit of
40k, and more importantly use the minis for a useful miniatures modelling project, but the model count in "normal" games was kind of daunting, so we've settled for a slightly modified version of the Combat Patrol rules, where the following are changed:
- One model is allowed to have up to W3 (modification of the normal Combat Patrol rules that state no models with more than W2)
- 2+ saves allowed (Combat Patrol states no saves better than 3+ or 4+ invulnerable)
We've changed these to allow us to use some of the more interesting
HQ choices that will let us make a small warband that looks somewhat more interesting and will be fun as a hobby project and not as a competitive thing.
I would like a little advice on is my proposed lists, if that'd be possible. I played
40k from 3rd edition through 4th edition, but packed up my armies (
IG with Witch Hunter allies, and a small collection of Eldar) a long time ago. I've always liked Chaos Space Marines, mostly from a fluff stand-point, and especially Nurgle and Khorne are interesting to me (Liber Chaotica: awesome).
The theme is pretty set; a Chaos Lord with Terminator Armour, the respective Mark and a daemon weapon, along with a unit of either 8 Plague Marines or 10 Khorne Berserkers depending on the Mark of the Lord (yeah, I know that Nurgle's number is 7 and Khorne's is 8, but I'd be quite some points under if I went for that setup). I was thinking that this would be a Chaos Lord with his personal retinue of Marines (not Chosen though, because we need a troops choice).
So, either:
399/400
Chaos Lord
> Terminator Armour, Mark of Nurgle, Plague Bringer (daemon weapon), Combi-melta
Plague Marines [7]
> 2x Melta Gun
Plague Champion
> Twin Linked Bolter
> Melta Bombs
Using Typhus for the Lord, and the Forge World kit for the Plague Marines.
or
400/400
Chaos Lord
> Terminator Armour, Mark of Khorne, Bloodfeeder (daemon weapon), Combi-melta
Khorne Berserkers [9]
Skull Champion
> Power Weapon
Using Forge World's Lord Zhufor as the Lord, and the Forge World kit for the Berzerkers.
Would either of these lists be totally gimped in Combat Patrol, or overpowered? I'm a little worried that either one might be too hardcore and just run over my opponents, or if I'd just be setting myself up to fail each time we play. Yeah, it's mostly a hobby project, but we'd be playing too, and no-one likes to lose everytime
I hope you can help me out!
