IT’S HERE! The Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army Book

Below you will find the link to the new Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army
Book, a complete, 92-page Army Book in the Games Workshop tradition.
The book—professionally written, designed, illustrated, and thoroughly
play tested—will be legal for use in participating Independent Grand
Tournaments. As of this writing, the Crossroads, Conflict, Colonial,
Destruction Derby, NEWCC, and War Camp GTs will allow the book as
legal, and we expect the number to grow with the publication of the
book.

worked as a games designer and writer for other games and magazines
including Fleer, Inc.’s customizable card game, Ophidian 2350.

Nice- brillinat work, Kevin Coleman!

Ace production and photos (although some of the best illustrations are hidden later in the book, while cruder stuff got put forwards- imo a wee mistake).

The rules are pretty balanced, with a few welcome streamlinings (like blunderbusses no longer having carefully-measured fire zones) but a few new clunky bits (like the Rare choice tower-thingy's destruction rules and crew shooting).

Most importantly, it doesn't seem too wishlisty, although I only skimmed the magic items. There are a ton of special characters, which seem pretty balanced on first examination.

Perhaps the best part is the modeling section, suprisingly. It's got great advice and examples and an awesome showcase.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Looks amazing, the best fan produced book I have seen.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Having read thru, I was struck by the Special Choice that is the exact same thing to the Dwarf Ironbreakers but have killing blow and cause fear for 1 more point per model. That was the cause of a loss of faith in the book.

I agree Obsidian Guard should be 1 extra point more, based on the established cost of IB. This kind of project was never that simple that 1 person could make a decision in a vacuum. One of the things about having an open playtest is that you get a ton of feedback, from a wide variety of players. The debate on this unit was long, and nobody thought the unit was truly effective, or desirable within the army makeup. I think they are fine, but doubt many will actually field them. They are good, but just not good enough to warrant them for the loss of a special slot. maybe I'm wrong, time will tell.

overall, miscosting a non-core infantry unit by a point or 2 will not make or break any list.

Here is the last debate thread on them, from V4 of the playtest book, if you are curious:

you cant really compare them this way.
things like this happen a lot and has more to do with how the units meshes with the army.

Have you considered that dwarf ironbreakers are perhaps overcosted (along with several other elite infantry choices in the game)? At the end of the day the O-guard is still m3 infantry that isn't unbreakable or stubborn, so it's safe to say that they certainly aren't broken or anything.

...unless you add the special character that makes them Unbreakable- like everyone fielding the unit will. Still, elite infantry are hard to get points back for, so it's probably a wash.

I'm really interested to see how this army plays. It looks like a shooty Dwarf army with a good number of throwaway units to stall incoming enemy forces, which is potentially really devastating. The rampage rules for all the shooty bits and the short range of blunderbusses may balance this out overall, but when luck is in the favor of the BigHats, it's gonna be ugly.

How do folks think this list will play against the current uberlists?

Man, this makes me want to dust my WHFB stuff off. Three cheers for fan-generated material injecting some new life into the hobby, and encouraging innovation!

Confused - With the announcement that CD will make their way back to WHFB, is this the new army book, or just a stand in until the new one?

This is totally unrelated to any book that GW may produce in the future, it's a fan-made list.

Err, didn't notice that one, as I happen to skip over the special character sections of whfb-books nowadays.
That said, he's not cheap (being 200 pts), so the guard unit with him may end up costing a lot. It sure makes a good bunker-unit, but I guess even the normal dwarves can make that with hammerers if they really want. I like it when elite-infantry is actually worthwile (as is its with black guard for example), altough I don't fancy too much the concept of 500+ pts units just dozing off in the corner and holding up their points as it may be the case with super-bunker-units.

There's also the issue with tournaments allowing/disallowing special characters as the gw ones have problems, altough I don't know how people will apply it to using fan-made stuff.

Very nicely done. If it was put together in a book, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

So for those who don't have the 2/3rd edition models, what are people using for CD?
