Hello folks
My dad is in the Texas Air National Guard here in the States, so I am inspired to do a IG Army based on him and the Local National Guard unit. I was wondering how to build a good fluffy list based on the Air Force/Air National Guard.
The obvious choices are the Valkyries and Vendettas, but other than that, I'm lost. Troops Elites HQ's and Heavy Supports I have no clue what to do with. (Fast attack would obviously be the Fliers...right? I do not have a codex with me so I think I'm remembering that right...)
I'm sure someone has done a Flying Circus army so please any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
Again much thanks,
Taylor

The Air Force has combat controllers which go ahead of the main force and set up airfields. That could something of a special force type unit in play.
You could also play off the Texas angle for the non-aviation end of things. You could employ scout-snipers types, rough riders (Texas Rangers) and a penal legion, since on the planet of Tejas the Legion is like the death penalty but better (well for the guard anyway). Give the command unit a Texas Revolution battle flag- a white field with a crimson arm gripping a curved sword dripping blood (yes, this was a real Texas flag) The rich history of Texas I'd imagine can be pretty fertile ground for an army theme.
Then again as a resident Texan I'm biased.

The only fluffy way to play them would be to play them one weekend every month and two weeks in the summer. Undoubtedly, some of your minis will be overweight and poorly trained, while others may only be interested in money for college.
Come to think of it, this doesn't sound like a very fun army...

LOL. Haven't been here long, have you? Brother, you need to lighten up a bit. Twas a joke. I've done my time in the service and earned the right to make fun of the Air National Guard if I so choose. If it really gets your panties in a bundle that badly, there is an ignore button right below my post.

I thought busting the balls of other branches/units of the armed forces was a big part of boot camp. Everybody I know in the military dumps endlessly on other parts of the military.
The best might be my buddy who's a Navy Aviator whose disdain for enlisted personnel is heinous.

You know, alot of air forces still have some ground units working with them, and are usually Snipers/ recon so I would suggest having all three elite choices as stormtroopers, and your two Troops will be occupied by regular guardsmen and artillery. Be sure to include vox's in your army as they will represent the ability to use air strikes, and mabye a master of the fleet considering the make of your army. Be sure to either use your fathers uniform colors for the uniforms or a grey and black uniform.
My thoughts

the_Armyman: Sorry, I'm really used to other nefarious forums, and so I read your post with the wrong inflection. For this, I am very sorry. Probably what angered me so is the truth in your statement hahaha...
Brother Alexos: I really like those ideas, the main problem im having with making a list is the vast amount of choices for the troops that I can't really figure out what I need in them. Also can I use conscripts as a pallet of wounds for a infantry squad? Like having 20 guardsmen and 20 conscripts and just take all the wounds on the conscripts until they are all gone?

Two seperate units so you can't use them as extra wounds. Cover yes... extra wounds, no.
