I'm curious about where people place their boardin' planks on Battlewagons. I have two to mount and was thinking about putting them on the back for purely aesthetic reasons. Because pivoting or turning does not count as movement it may not matter that much for purposes of hitting the target.

Is it even measured from the plank? The wording was unclear.

I believe it's measured 2" from the plank but I don't have my codex with me at the moment. It would be great if it wasn't measured from the plank.

Seems crystal clear to me that it's measured from the hull. "exactly as if the ork were disembarking and charging" means anywhere to me, because you can disembark from any part of the hull of an open-topped vehicle.
So make them planks look perdy, and Klaw those tanks!

A boarding plank allows a single embarked Ork to make its close combat attacks against an enemy vehicle within 2" exactly as if the Ork were disembarked and charging, provided neither vehicle has moved more than 12".
I'd assume 'within 2" ' means 2" of the hull of the trukk.

So with a deff rolla that sticks out from the front of the Battlewagon from where would the 2" be measured?

Deff Rollas are tricky one because they typically stick way out in front of the BW. For consistencies sake I always measure all distances to the front of the Rolla as if it were part of the hull of the BW including for purposes of my opponent shooting at me. Seems to be the most consistent way to do things.
For me I'd measure from the Deff Rolla.

You must measure from the Hull.
It specifically says that accessories, weapons, dozer blades, and the like are not used for measuring unless you're measuring range for a shooting weapon (which is done from the barrel, wherever that might be). For all vehicle measurements, you should be using the actual hull of the vehicle.

Hull is never defined in the BRB.
Dozer Blades are never mentioned in the list of things that are not hull.
It specifies that gun barrels, antennas and decorative poles are not hull, but Dozer Blades/Deffrollas are definately a grey area.
BTW, "hull" works both ways. Either the Dozer Blades/Rollas are part of the hull for measuring disembarking/planks and they can be measred to, during the opponents shooting phase, OR Dozer Blades/Rollas are ignored for both disembarking/planks, as well as being shot at.
I know that my opponents always want the Rolla to be hull, so that they can shoot/assault my BWs easier.

If your measuring the 2" from the deffrolla for purposes of the boarding plank, and using the deffrolla for the purposes of shooting at the BW, I don't see a problem.
So long as your being consistent, that's what counts.
Edit : To be more clear.

Exactly, as long as you treat the Deffrolla as hull for either everything, or nothing, you should be fine.
Personally, I prefer for it to be hull, otherwise you get an extra 2 inches for tank shock (because of how far the rolla sticks out), without giving your opponent the same 2 inches to shoot you. Not counting the Deffrolla as hull gives the BW an unfair avantage when closing in on melta packing troops.

I have seen this debate prop up before on opther forums. If you want to start a debate on BW Hulls and deff rollas you ned to start one up in YMDC.
To the OP. It doesn't matter where you glue the plank, as has allready been stated in order to use the plank, just get the hull within 2" of the enemy vehicle.
My personal definition of the hull is, without the deffrolla. Imagine jumping out of a battlewagon "landing" on the spinning deffrolla, then jumping off of it to disembark....a bit absurd if you ask me. (And I'm an ork player)

edit.I realized that my wording was a bad GW's so I edited for clarifiaction.
