I'm more of a painter than a gamer, only getting a few games in a year...so the intention is a fluff based army to have fun with, but maintain a small bit of tactical ability.

The theme for the army would be a mix between the Phantine drop regiment from Dan Abnett's Double Eagle, as well as to serve as an allied force for a Raven Guard army I'm building as well. I'm using the FW Cadian rebreather kits so going crazy on infantry really isn't an option.

I know the list is very limited in terms of Heavy Support, so if there's enough points left over, I was thinking either adding a Vendetta Gunship or Basilisk. It's my first Guard list, so any help/comments are appreciated.

Interesting list, I like the fact that you tried to steer around Leman Russes for a change.

One point I thought about when reading the list was: Where is your anti-horde? Usually one sees flamers in some squads. However, then I noticed that your list packs 12 heavy bolters - 36 shots per round - and quite an amount of small-arms fire from lasguns to heavy stubbers. I guess this list could work well! However, the total absence of heavy armour means that your transports will be the target of every AT weapon on the field; at that point level, your tactics probably should not rely on them surviving very long.

I'm making a fluff-influenced IG army at the moment, too, and am thinking about how to justify a 60t Leman Russ in my army; however, it should be very, very possible for the Imperial Navy to deliver such weights. There are landers like Warhawk VI Stormbirds, big void-capable transport flyers that probably have no problem deploying a LRBT. Therefore, if you want one, get one, the fluff should have no problem with a rapid insertion force that gets a tank dropped with them. Perhaps on very big grav-chutes for style...would look cool.

However, what I was going to say: A naked LRBT is only 150 points and provides hard AV14 that will probably scare enemies and divert fire from the chimeras. Deploy it in cover and it should live a while, dishing out a S8 AP3 template every round; this should keep the enemy shooting at the LRBT, while your chimeras can advance (more) unharmed (than without the tank).

I am somehow unsure of the relation this list has to Deliverance and the Raven Guard.

The system where the marines have their Ravenspire, has a great industrial capacity. I dont think its a problem to justify
any amount of tech in a Guard regiment from there.

Also i dont see how this should represent a drop-force.
Maybe a few IG transports of the new IG codex, like Valkyries and Vendettas ( or vultures if you go FW ) could add some style.

The point i would change, is the wargear of some seargents / officers.
Powerfists are not really a useful option for a S3 model. And plasmapistols may be the "shoot yourself in the foot" option at a T3 officer.

I think the stormtroopers are a fluff choice in your list, but they may fare better with a ride. Transport?

The idea of a pre-heresy stormbird is nice, but i dont know why the space marines should lend their few ancient transports to the auxilary troops, maybe if the "new" thunderhawk is considered superior and the IG has to do with the very old stuff but i may
suggest to have your IG transported in IG / navy transports.

If youre at a "drop-troop" theme, maybe sentinels could fit.

What i'm trying to say is,
-infantry + sentinels + Valks/Vendetta could represent a phantine regiments style
-almost every choice in the codex would represent a worlds contribution to the IG.

So youre mix tends to give you a 50/50 of mobility and i believe you need to decide to have stormtroopers or rough riders,
where i leaning more to stormtroopers in a transport.

Artillery like a basilisk would make this army static and should also not be a single vehicle.
Batteries work fine. Mostly for gunline armies. If you want to move, Tanks are better.

Thank you for the input, I guess my intentions of a "drop troop" list were more based on the previous IG codex. I bought models, but never got around to finishing the army and now have to adjust to the new codex. The scout force/mobile list seems more reasonable, so based on your suggestions, I guess I would make the following changes:

- Replace Rough Rider squad with Leman Russ
- Replace Infantry Squad Meltas for Flamers
- Reduce wargear for officers and get Chimeras for Storm Trooper squads

@witzkatz - I like your idea about trying to incorporate the dropped Leman Russ in your army, maybe model it on a pallette with the parachute draped over the back.

The other intention of the list is to be able to convert existing bitz/kits I have instead of buy new ones:

- The 'Chimeras' are actuall Rhinos that will be open topped like Salamanders.
- The two Sentinels are FW Elysian Drop variants, so definitely want to keep those in the list.

Thanks again for the help.

I've been tweaking the list, and realized with the points I have left, I can either go for 1 Leman Russ Battle Tank or 2 Hydras. I haven't played 5th edition yet, but I guess it's a question of the Russ' staying power versus the 8 twin linked autocannon shots I'd get with the pair of Hydras.

Are the number of skimmers and turbo'd bikes that frequent in 5th edition, to take the Hydras?
