I'm in the process of building my IG Catachan Air Cav army, which will roughly consist of 2 Command Squads and 3 Vet Squads riding in a bunch of Valks/Vendettas. One command squad will be modeled after Captain Willard and the crew of the PT boat from Apocalypse Now. One command squad will be modeled after Colonel Kilgore and his Air Cav men also from Apocalypse Now. One of the Vet Squads is being modeled after the Special Forces team from Predator (as shown in my P&M Blog here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/238507.page). I'm thinking of having another squad based on Joker's squad from Full Metal Jacket (once he gets in the field, not boot camp), but I'm not positive I'm going to go that route. Any ideas on other movie/tv squads that are jungle-fighter-ish?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

What about the "We Were Soldiers" Air-Cav Squad? The Mel Gibson movie? However, they're not a small squad like the ones you mentioned, and they don't have many memorable characters, again unlike the ones you mentioned. I'm just suggesting them because of the Air-Cav theme

Oh, and please post pictures of your squads once you're done. I'm very interested. And if it's not too much of a chore, go ahead and do the Full Metal Jacket squad. I love that movie! *pretty ork please*

Edit: Oh, and who could forget "Platoon"? Charlie Sheen with the trademark-every-Catachan-needs-one-headband, the sergeants Barnes and Elias and all the rest... they offer good conversion opportunities, I think!

err I was going to do Catachan air Cav but my guard army has grown into some cross arms coalition for my Campaign which is fluffy for all of my armies Space Marines,Chaos,Ork,Guard.

Yea Air Cav is a awesome idea just find the idea of 9 Valks somewhat pricey

They dont call me Garybrandy for nothing!

how is it off topic? we hardly know what the topic even is!

I'll probably go with the Full Metal Jacket squad, and while I've seen Apocalypse Now and FMJ plenty of times, I've only seen Platoon once - I think I'll need to watch it again. I remember liking it, but it didn't blow my mind like FMJ or Apocalypse Now did.

I'm not going to do full Air Cav - in addition to being pricey, I don't think it's as effective as Air Cav + Heavy Support. I'm giong with 3 Manticores to add that aspect. I plan to build them such that I can swap out the missile launchers for Aegis quad guns and make them Hydras. And if I'm feeling particularly spunky, I may even figure out a way to swap out the guns for a Medusa turret, but that part's a little bit on the back burner.

You're right, it isn't as great a film as the other two, but I think some of the characters are quite memorable and - that might be more important - visually distinctive. I saw the pictures you posted on your blog, and it seems you're trying to recreate the look of the actors in those movies. I think Platoon lends itself nicely to such a task.

I was bummed today - went to Blockbuster to rent some of these movies. They had Predator and Apocalypse Now, but no Platoon or FMJ....I'll have to look elsewhere.

I was paging through some Wikipedia entries today and stumbled across Hamburger Hill again - that's another one with a good, strong cast. I'll have to see if Blockbuster's got that one in stock.

I know someone who had a squad of Vets modelled up as the A-Team.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
It was either a Vet squad or Command Squad anyway.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.
