So for awhile now I have been reading through the background part of the rulebook and looking at the space marine chapter planets I noticed there was one planet for the “knights of the raven.”

Back when 4th edition D&D came out me and my friends decided to give it a shot and I created a human Paladin named Broderic Ironraven.

I KNOW!!!! Weird huh?

Anyways I thought I would do a side army based on the background of my D&D character and just update everything to 40,000 years later.

What I have in mind is that the chapter master will be the paladin I created and the rest of the army will be aspiring knights. Other background is forth coming so im just going to get to the point of my post.

I want to model everyone with a one handed weapon IE sword, mace, axe, ect, ect and a shield or a two handed weapon. I plan on putting bolters as well just not sure how yet.

I don’t really want to use any chain swords but maybe. My big problem comes in 2 parts

1. I want to use heads closer to the grey knight helm not the normal space marine helm (the Beak helm might look good too though)

2. Shields. Ill need a lot (every model in the army will have one if not as a real piece of war gear then for show) and I like the shield on the dark angel vets. But what else could i use

So what’s the best way to come up with these parts? I’m thinking an infantry heavy force around about 2000 point so to be safe lets say……. 75 of both helm and shields.

Any thoughts?

Edit: The planet was Knights of the raven. Not Iron raven my mistake

This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

Just use the Grey Knights figures. Or use the Warhammer Fantasy figures as you base figures and build up off of them.

I have thought about using grey knights but plastic is easier to work with and what fantasy figs? the chaos warriors? I think i will buy a box of the chosen on foot. maybe use them as the termies.

Shields - Buy a tonne of Plasticard and cut some shields out of it.

Helmets - Just shave down the cables and whatnot on the front sides of the helmet and sculpt the crusader style beak over the vox port/rebreather with Greenstuff.

All in all, not very expensive conversions to make. Just sort of tedious.

Shields... I'm going to be working on some marines with combat shields here in the next couple weeks... it's what I'm using - Of course, I had a bunch left over from my Empire army, but it's nice to see that I can order more if needed.

the shields with the lion head from the empire spearmen out of the 6th ed warhammer boxed game (empire vs orcs) would work well if you could get hold of them :]

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Black Templars yet. You get a bevvy of medieval looking swords, knightly helms, and crusader tabbards in the box. Could get those and some plastic shields from the fantasy range and you'd be pretty well off.

the problem with the Grey Knights is that the head is connected to the body so kinda expensive

Exactly what I was thinking!

Black Templars is your army.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Black Templars would seem the most obvious match, both for codex and quite a few models. I do like the idea of your chapter quite literally being composed of 'knights', the thousand elite of their homeworld's fighting force.

For models, some of the Khorne Berzerker heads (minus the side 'horns') look quite knightlike. A few Black Templar sprues will certainly be useful. And look through the Bretonian knight fantasy range, I'm sure there are lots of bits you can use. (Hmm, what could a mounted marine on a Pegasus flying horse count as?) I like the idea of all the models having swords and sheilds, even if they have no combat effect (so long as you can avoid any WYSIWYG confusion).

Hmm, or an all-bike army would also suit the knight theme...

All this looks very expensive way to go about it.

Recently I wanted a necron face mask for one of my model ( it was a death mask kind thing. so i asked a necron player and using a bit of green stuff and 2 empty bases i made a cast of the head.

This is a quick and cheap way of getting the head you want also works to make cheap shields. Using the same method I made a cast of a gun I sculpted (and couldn’t be bothered to replicate) and once the cast was dry turn out another 12 in an hour or so. key work out a way of removing your mould from the case I like putting a pin in the middle, can be cut to hide the bit still inside and allows for a strong grip.

You could do the whole bike army using horses to count as bikes.

But then you'd just be getting the empire Knights and adding Space Marine parts to them.

+ SM heads, shoulders, chainswords/swords (it just has to be a cc weapon, cardboard tubes could do) and guns.

Now that you mention Black Templars (I call them Space Hospitallers xD), that'd be too cliché. My say is, pick a specific medieval period you like and look for documentation on swords and shields.

Send me a pm, perhaps I could help you.

well like everyone else is saying I would go with the BK ( Brittani knights ) there heads look just like the Gray knights but the have there flowery things on there helms and just cut there one hand swords ( the on foot box set is 25 dollars I believe ) and they come with kite style shields so that' is two questions down and the 3rd about the bolters easy mate..yes you can use the Gray Nights bolter arms and just add the shields to them or..you can take the bolter and cut off the clip ( you will need it ) then file down to the barrel shield and scope mount and cut off the back Trigger part and then file it all smooth and your done fore arm style bolters to go on the Sword arms Not the shield ( the way I picture them it would look more scary to a Demon or a CSM that way )

Just my ideas you don't have to like them but there you go you came to us lol....enjoy..

10% of something is better than 100% of nothing..
