Of all the wepons in 40k wich is the worst for infantry and wich is the worst for tanks? I'm not talking about super heavys, just normal 40k rules. What are the nastyist wepons and from what armys are they from?

What's so scary about a S3 flamer? Sure they're dangerous in large numbers, but that's true of nearly everything including regular S4 flamers. (Yes, I know what breath of chaos really does.)
A bastion breacher Medusa is currently the deadliest possible gun against armor in the 40k rules. S10 + 2d6, Ap1. As for infantry, the Deathstrike missile is pretty deadly if you set aside its crippling limitations. S10 Ap1, D3+3" radius blast, ignores cover. Wounds almost everything on a 2+, inflicts instant death on anything up to T5, and ignores all armor save, cover saves, and feel no pain. And a massive blast radius. Going down a notch or two to more serious weapons, the Manticore and Collossus are quite deadly versus infantry. This is all IG.

Aye, Imperial Guard seems to rock the battlefield with their rather crude, rather simple "100kg of TNT should do the job" explosive shells. However, Eldar on the other side with their D-cannon are somewhat scary, too, for their ability to pen armor on 1/3 no matter what AV it has. Land Raiders and Russes don't like stuff like that. However, due to short range I'm not sure it is one of the scariest here. It probably gets easily topped by the IG artillery pieces.
And, yeah, the Deathstrike missile is a bit off. Because it basically kills everything from everywhere and it's hard to stop it from firing. It's disadvantages are, of course, scatter and possible "small" blast with bad dice. Otherwise it can annihilate almost everything. But, seriously, it's rather an Apoc weapon, is it.

Melta is pretty obvious for slow/biggish vehichles. (skimmers can float around and luagh)
However, I do believe that the 'gift of chaos' or the ork turning them into a squig is truly terrifying against independant characters. Especially if they are human/eldar Toughness.

The ork weirdboy power, Zzap!, counts as firing a weapon and is 36" range, +2D6 pen, S10 AP2, hits automatically if the target is in range. Its gotta be the best anti-tank weapon. I like the battle cannon against infantry.

...Can I vote for a tool-ed up Cannoness against tanks?
Sensible BS, with a melta (Okay, so 3" melta range, but hey, she'll be charging, and its a pistol, so its a CCW as well, when you use it with the right stuff), (discounting the pistol's CCW effect, but hey) an eviscerator, and a pile of wargear. From a fair distance away, she'll just walk up to the tank, and hit it in the head. Thats ignoring the celestian retinue with a multi-melta, melta, and a transport vehicle (no codex to hand, but multi-melta immolator, anyone?)
Also, LR punisher v ICs with no attached infantry.
Aaaand then theres IG artilleryspam. Reroll scatter on the first shot of my salvo, then drop a coversave denial onto your head, with another shot coming.
|
I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can. |

Agreed on the nob with the PK in the big boyz mob. , that can be scary. However, if you know your opponent relies on this for AT power - keep Telion around as an SM player or the Vindicare as WH/DH/IG. Especially the turbopenetrator round is great for this, insta-killing the nob and therefore making the whole mob rather useless for tankbusting. Not the most frightening for the reason that there are some simple counters for some armies and its general vulnerability to anything that fires templates.
If this thread would be about units, I'd say large amounts of Land Raiders. However, just the weapon...
...I think the Incinerator is quite a fearsome weapon. Good damage, denies some armor saves, denies cover saves, denies invulnerability saves...no need to roll for hit...I'm not sure about the AP, is it 4 or 5? If it is AP4, then this is the nightmare of any Eldar force, I guess.

Difficult disision.....
But ill go for a punisher with pask against most regular infantry (sounds good and I have a thing for gattaling weapons IRL its 50-100 rounds a second!)
For tanks melta weaponry at half range.

Anti-Infantry: Huh, probably Airburst Fragmentation Projector. Its the best thing I've seen for Tau so far.

Uh...the math hammer on a punisher even with pask is a bit lack luster. Sure its a ton of shots but a standard russ tends to kill more of just about anything you shoot at. In practice the punisher is not as good as it sounds. I would say the deathstrike is the best single gun in the game. IF it goes off. It is also ONE of the least likely guns to ACTUALLY fire. I would have to go with the trusty melta on a point to point basis if we are talking about actually game play.
Just my 2 cents...
