Hi

The entry for the Guardian squad says that two members must be upgraded to a weapon team with a heavy weapon platform. I noticed this as I am about to start an Eldar army, however whenever I versed a friend who used Eldar they always had their Weapon Platform as a seperate unit to the Guardian squad, as in not in coherency. An earlier entry in the codex mentions that the platform must stay in coherency with the crew and it seems that only those two in that unit would be able to operate the weapon. It doesn't say if the crew would need to stay in coherency with the guardian squad though, but it also doesn't mention that they would be allowed to operate seperately from the Guardian squad. As the rules seem to be more permissive then restrictive, I think that the weapon crew would have to remain in coherency with the guardian squad. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

Yes, they must remain in coherency with the rest of the Squad.

Alright, thanks Gwar!

Did your friend just kept the platform out of coherency or did he treat it as a completely separate unit (for example, for shooting purposes)?

Anyway, I second the opinion of my foreposter.

(Is there a word like that in English? "The poster before me"?)

Previous poster, I'd guess.

Well the platform was on the other side of the board from the Guardians, who were busy with a Dreadnought that had arrived nect to them in a Drop Pod

Yeah the English Term Would be "Previous Poster". Ya see, we like putting spaces between words

And using multiple words as well as many words with the same meaning. The longer it is the smarter it sounds, usually

Previous poster, of course. Why didn't I think of that.

Well, if he would lack 1 or 2 inches for cohesion, it wouldn't that much of a problem, no great advantage from that, but across the board...that's a bit audacious.

Hope you can convince him to play by what the codex says.

I honestly had no idea about that either until a few minutes before making this topic

Odd requirement for a Guardian squad though.

Doesn't seem that odd to me. Many infantry squads in 40k pack at least one special weapon on one or two soldiers. The guardians have their floaty platform, which is basically an IG Heavy Weapon Team with more mobility.
No other squad is allowed to let its special/heavy guys move around independently or even shoot at different targets, so there's really no reason to believe that Guardian HWPs should be able to do so.

(Would be useful, though, I admit that.)

Once upon a time, IG could detach their Heavy Weapons team and let it operate on it's own. No longer. Once upon a time, the Eldar weapons platform was optional. No longer.

I acutally thought of the Long Fangs when posting my last post, but I wasn't sure if they were or still are able to do it, so I thought...better not to undermine my own post.

However, I'm interested if they'll keep that in the new Wolves codex.

The eldar weapons platform is just treated as a token now, its actually either of the two eldar weapon operators that are treated as actually being the weapon for LOS and range purposes. This stops the practice of hiding the squad behind a building but having the weapons platform sitting out in the open 2" away around the corner so that it could fire with impunity. The platform is still supposed to remain in coherency with the guardians however.

Sliggoth

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k).

On the other hand, the Eldar also have artillery units that remind people of Guardian HWTs. Is the OP sure it's not artillery that sits elsewhere?

Very sure because if it was there would have to be two there instead.

He could have been fielding a unit of Storm Guardians and a Support Battery? Maybe?

Nope, they used their normal weapons.
