Decided to ignore space hulk now due to insane prices, so to keep me busy ive decided to go back to an old army of mine.
Problem being, i havent used tau with thier new dex, so i have no idea how they play, and what units are now competative.
Next problem being my missus. She is pissed off with me changing armies every few months lol, so ive been limited to a £100 budget :(

So my question is, how will this work for an army, and how to layout the units?

All prices are via maelstrom.

Codex tau empire - £10.50

Battlesuit commander - £15.75
XV8 Crisis suit X2 - £21 (bodyguard unit?)

Stealth suit box X2 - £21

Fire warrior team X2 - £31.50

This comes just short of £100 (about £1-£2 lol)
Are stealth suits still worth taking?
Can suits be used as a mainstay to the army? and if so, do they work well?

Also, if there a better list par price? looking for a very suit heavy army.

Sorry for all the questions, but just wanted to get into an old army again. (had to sell off da boyz to buy this, since im not allowed over 5 armies :()

The Tau were one of the few armies that gave you a decent army from some of the boxed sets. Look for these:

See if you can find an old Rapid insert force(Don't blame me, GW is who name it) some where. I picked mine up for $120 US. It contained 3 stealth suits and 9 crisis suits.

After that I'd look around for one of the larger battleforce sets. Can't remember the price exactly(Maybe $150-170ish US) but it was much cheaper than the individual prices. I seem to remember that there was one that had a Hammerhead and a Devilfish along with a decent troop selection and a commander.

The only unit you might be looking for that are not sold in the value box sets are Broadsides.

Hope this helps and that you can still find one of these boxed sets hiding somewhere.

If they are too stupid to live, why make them?

Thanks focused
ive been looking around for a few boxes, but after the Initial apocalypse hype died down most box sets were removed as they lost alot of money compared to individual sales.

1 thing i do want to check is HS options.
I used to run 2 railheads and a set of 3 broads.
(2 railheads for thinning units / tank hunting)
The broadsides were added for extra punch when needed, without the troop killing option available to them they were left with high strength, which worked out well for MC hunting.

would this setup for HS still be a viable option?
also, are stealth suits still working out well?

Ive ignored the phiranas (sp?) Due to being far too low AV and not reliable enough.
Plus, only job i could find them good for would be fusion tank hunting, but with low AV and short range they are a liability to me.

The Heavies still work as you used to play them. It is what you do with the rest of the army that hasw changed.

The stealth suits work as long as you keep them armed with burstcannons and (Maybe)Marker drones. Putting fusions on them tempts/forces players to do stupid things with them.

As to the Piranha's, read through this thread, especially the last page or two:

Then ask Hollisman about how he deploys them. Tell him I say Hi.

Hope this helps.
