After much deliberation i have decided that i need two sample armys to help get my friends into fantasy. I have a smattering of models from several half finished armys and concluded that a DOW army would be best. These brave souls will be plundering my jungle death world board looking for plunder.

Who better to combat these interlopers than a band of savage orcs and goblins who have made the jungle their home, building happy lives off the goblins fields of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

This is where i need your help!

I have seen a couple sites with basic DOW conversions, but what does dakka have in its endless seas of talent?

And the orcs! i have seen a pic of an orc in WD, wearing a cheata skin and using a spear, but what images or conversions come forward when a tribe of wild orcs strike an isolated living in the jungles of lustria?

Both of them are great armies, although I'm sad to say that the DOW probably aren't long for the GW community. I don't see them getting much support any time soon, although there are those that would argue the point. What they really bring to the table is versatility - you can can include damned near anything in a DOW army, and it looks legit. The savages have the advantage of being supported and fun, but you're a bit more restricted as to what you can field.

I can shoot you a few pics from my savage orc & DOW armies:

I love the theme of those orcs Wonko. Also the broom crew. What is that one human riding? The one with the feather in his hat and the hammer? It looks like a giant chicken. How did you do that?

Thanks Rossko - the giant chicken is an old GW cockatrice. Nowadays he's just a pegasus though - the old 5th edition bestiary shrunk a bit.

Wow i love your orcs! just what i was thinking! Are those GW models or crafty conversions?

Is there actualy a savage orc list out?

Dogs of war are great too, love the colors.

Im not so concerned about gw support for the dogs. I hate to admit it but i lost faith in gws decsions in regaurds to rule books a long time ago. Its mainly a fluffy and relatable idea for new gamers to get into.

Who doesn't love the idea of greedy treasure hunters encountering a tribe of savage orcs in the depths of a misty jungle?

The savage orc list is just a sub-set of the orc list - same book - nothing special really. The goblin half has to be converted though - well, except the spider riders.

The models I used are mostly 5th & 6th edition GW models, although a few of them are converted pretty heavily - I'm glad you like them.

And yeah, I know what you mean, the fluff part of the game is a great part of it. It's sad that GW has focused so much on tournie play lately.

how must the gobbos be converted? i am not too well versed on the savage orc fluff.

Since DOW army will include a decent sized force of elves i thought i might use night goblin rules instead. The fear element might prove frustrating for new players. That and i love the idea of mushroom farmers, paying for a little peace of mind with the big burly orcs via mushrooms and pink floyd albums.
