So I am working on a semi-mechanized Imperial Guard army. I had always liked rough riders for their fluff and abilities but I knew I had to convert my own models. If my memory serves me right this solution is also cheaper than using the actual models (dunno if they are sold anywhere anymore). They are just the counter-charge IG needs. I browsed the net for an hour or so and I ended up with Digit's (from the Ammobunker) nice conversion guide. Thanks for that.

I am somewhat lazier and worse at converting so I went the easy way and simply used the dark elf lances for weaponry. I will have a whole ten of these but 3 wait to be painted and 4 bases only have the lizards on them. And yes, that rough rider who carries the lasgun isn't ready yet. Here they are:

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! This man needs no introductions:

The demolition charge I made is not fixed, so he remains WYSIWYG even after using it!

Bits I needed to convert him:

Kneeling legs, torso, arms, head and backpack all from the catachan HWT sprue.
Meltabomb from space marines.
Ripper pistol is made of a cut laspistol, space marine scope and a lasgun barrel from a chimera lasguns.
Flamer backpack, kroot sling, 3 chopped frag grenades.

Funny how nobody uses horses for rough rider conversions Great use of the cold ones though. Think the hunting lances would work better (i.e. look less medieval) without the hand guards. The lance tips are spot on though.

really great looking rough riders. the new cold ones look great. I've been thinking about using marine scout bikes to do mine, but the cold ones look so much cooler.

Yep, that's my Marbo, he was so easy to convert!

The mounts are dark elf cold ones. I bought 2 boxes of them (10 cold ones) and one box of basic cadians (10 riders). There I had all the bits I needed.

Nice rough riders! Nice paintjobs too and I knew the Cadian models would work well with Cold Ones, I just never tried it. The only qualm I have is the rider on the far left just doesnt look natural with the way he is holding his rifle and lance, but that might be just me.

For sure! I'm really liking these colours. Makes me think of a Regiment based in an underwater city or a series of raised platform cities on an ocean world

I always loved the idea of giant lizards as mounts for Guardsmen...makes them actually intimidating...I love the lances btw, are those mortar rounds at the tips?
