I don't have an IG codex, so forgive the probably obvious question. I was at my flgs the other day, talking with one of the employees. He mentioned that he was saving up to "buy 9 valkyries and watch my opponent crap his pants."

Like I said, I don't have an IG codex, so this seemed... unfair? to me.

So, can someone let me know if it is actually okay for an IG player to make me crap my pants? It seems really unbalanced...

I'm also against him getting to watch. Is this is a special IG rule?

Valkyries may be taken in squadrons of three so a total of nine can be used in a single force organization chart. The effectiveness of a 9 valkyrie army however isn't especially high. They aren't difficult vehicles to shoot out of the sky.

Yes they can have 9, but it is not that good.

Yes, it is a special IG rule, but most people argue it is RAI, not RAW. That's why you don't see it being discussed in this forum.

Yes its perfectly legal to take 9 Valkyires, but I would opt for 9 Vendetta's. Thats 27 twinlinked lascannons shooting at you per turn, stuff is just going to die alot.

No, there is no special rule for the valk requiring you to crap your pants. You may, however, be required to be slightly aroused by the awesomeness of the model when fielded in large numbers (assuming you fail an awareness test and don't successfully recognise the mediocrity of this tactic).

It's a common mistake.

if I were you, I would not sweat seeing 9 valk's or vendetta's on the board.

1 - they are big and with 9 on the board, plus your army, their mobility will be greatly reduced
2- with the new squadron rules, immobilized is wreck, so now you have a 50% change of destroying it on a pen and a 16% on a glance

Exactly. It is really difficult to not target and hit a big target like a Valk/Vendy. I have lost several of my birds to Ordnance Blast hits from Basilisks ( firing directly ).

9 can be really interesting, if you take 9 vendettas, 2 veteran squads, 1 troop platoon, and a CCS. Stick the platoon so that it spreads out over all three squadrons of vendettas, fill the rest of the vendettas with the other units, and you've got a really screwed up situation on your hands.

Theoretically, by RAW, all nine vendettas and the units the carry come in on a single reserves roll, outflank, and with the CCS, get +1 to reserves and can re-roll the choice of table edge.

don't forget to take that MOTF or astropath (i can't remember which one helps your roles at the moment). you don't want the "my whole army didn't show up at all because of bad reserve rolls" situation to happen. i've seen lots of terminator squads (i play in a DA heavy store with deathwing a'plenty) that apparently got lost on the way to the battlebarge teleporter room due to bad reserve rolls.

While I strongly suspect that it is my opponent’s intention to make me crap my pants, I refuse to believe that it is RAI or RAW. It violates TMIR, IMO.
