I was thinking of buying this spur and a Rhino pack... it would come out to a few bucks over the price of a regular russ, but it would be my own.

Now if I was to make it a count as russ I would have to put the heavy bolter or lascannon on there somewhere and I was thinking to modeling them on as co-axil to the turret... my question is could i pull it off as a legal russ. or because it it a co-axil weapon it is not a russ and therefor not legal

The heavy bolter would have to be hull mounted, as this limits the firing arc of the weapon.

That said, your buddies might not care where it is so long as you play it as a hull mount. It will come up with strangers and in tournaments though.

Hmm, when i get paid, I might try some chopping and cutting... to get it more legal, but other then that, I am really hoping to make a different russ hull... not really a fan of the current style.

Well the main problem is that the Russ is AV14, while the Rhino is AV11.

You will need serious work to represent that

Well I am no tank expert but my guess is it is hard to tell the armor thickness from looking at the front... so do you think I could get away with just saying, It is thicker armor then a standard Rhino, just cant tell because you cant see how far back it goes. :?

Just be careful, there's no turret bottom on the leman russ sprue.

Yeah, look at all the work GW put into the AV11 Rhino to make it the AV13 Predator

Armour at an angle is thicker than verticle or something like that!

The angle of the armor helps deflect the round, meaning that a thinner armor at an angle is just as good as a thicker armor in the more conservative designs.

the second one, it has the widest tracks, which implies that it is in fact the heaviest.

if the tracks are too narrow it would get bogged down and stuck in any light dirt/mud.

I think the real problem, unless you go in for some massive conversion, is going to be when people ask "why does that razorback have a battle cannon?"

The rhino hull is just way too recognizable.

It is reconizable, yeah... but it is so much sexier then the Russ tank.

I wish I could use that "Create your own tank" rule set in 2004's chapter approved

I would use the Rhino Hull and slap the Russ Turret and Tracks onto it... best way to convey the LR status to the Rhino Chassis.

2 options for your converting desires:

You CAN make your own tanks/rules for Apoc games if others agree.

Play Orks and make your own Battlewagons. I've got a custom job with 4 Big Shootas and a Zzap gun all on the same turret.

It would be fine as long as WYSIWYG on the weapons. EDIT: Welcome to the world of conversions. You have taken your first step into a larger universe.

Personally, I'd rather take a chimera chassis with a preedator hull and beefed up autocannon but thats more appropriate disucssion to a modeling forum.
