Do you have an IG codex? If not, orders are a mechanic that the IG have that allows them to do a variety of things. Twin-linking against a single MC or vehicle, getting more lasgun shots, and running very fast are all examples. They're kinda like psychic powers that work on the targets Ld (note, they only work on IG units in the army, so no ordering about PAGK).

Your post kind of implies you have not even read the codex. You cannot just ask for rules Carte Blanche. GW send Attack Pandas if we do,

It's never a bad idea to pick up a few codexes, even for armies you have no intention of playing, just to learn the army and get a good idea of what it's capable of. Also, you'd be surprised what some people will try to get away with if they think you don't know their army. I once saw a Tyranid player in a tournament who had his opponent convinced all of his hormagaunts had rending. And even against an opponent who isn't trying to cheat, it never hurts to know their army as well or better than they do.
My advice: buy some codexes.

For a more specific Orders question, can you issue 2 orders to the same squad?
Example: CCS in a chimera is 11" away from a 20man blob unit with 2 autocannons and GL's. Can he issue them bring it down, and fire on my target to take out a chaos rhino in cover?

When you are just starting the game, it is much better to spend that $20-25 on a box of troops than a codex you might not use.

I'm not about to go buy a codex for an army I don't play. I can certainly afford it, it's just the principle of the thing. Make friends with folks at your local stores, and ask to read their codex's when you are both hanging out at the store.
You will find that if you want to improve your game, at some point you will likely need to understand your opponents army almost as well as your own so you know how to best fight them. All the stores around here have store copies that you can sit and read, look into that as well at your local stores.

I believe I know the answer to this, but it's worth checking.
Can you give the same order from the same CCS in the same turn to a different unit? Two instances of "Bring it Down!", for example, to two different heavy weapons squads?
Had a guy call me on this last game and I couldn't find anything that said I couldn't but it was somewhat fuzzy.
Thanks.

The Commander can give 2 orders.
The Codex never stipulates that you can only give a specific order once.
I think your opponent was confusinf orders with the normal rules for psychic powers...only being able to cast a power one time (of course, there is wargar that allows certain armies to get around this, as well).
Feel free to give the "Bring it Down" order 2x with the same CCS

What you cannot do is give Bring it down to the SAME unit twice.

No, a unit cannot receive more than 1 ORDER (with thanks to Kirsanth) a turn, even if the order failed.
Also remember that if you have a CCS (or other unit with more than 1 Order), if you order your own unit with an order other than the last one, you cannot issue any more orders that turn with that unit.

Shhhhhhhh, it's a typo. I am tired and have been writing up a long Article for Dakka, and am also working on a way to install army builder to a Virtual machine mounted on a USB stick so you do not have to worry about the Licence assploding if you have to reformat.

Question.
I've read the IG codex, so please hold off the Angry Pandas...
Can a squad, infantry or otherwise, fire and move as normal without being issued an order?
It seems logical that if a squad responds to orders, it would only act on orders. I just played a game where no IG unit except those in vehicles and Elite units could fire without being issued an order. We are on turn 4 and its about even. I'm playing against Tyranids.
But it sounds from what I'm hearing is that a squad can act normally, unless it is given an order, which is kind of a bonus...
So if that's the case can a unit receive an order to fire, and then fire on its own? Can it move and then receive an order to run?

Yes, they can. However, order increase their effectiveness by a lot.
CitizenPrime wrote:

No on the first, the FRFSRF rule allows for more shots, but does not allow for more shooting.
Yes, you can recieve the order to run, because you move in the movement phase and run in the shooting phase.

For the OP, there is an article on the GW site that talks about the different orders, who can use them, what they do, etc. Just go to the IG section and look under articles.

Thanks, but I had already.
The way the article makes it sound is that same as the codex does... as if the guard units are stupid without taking orders... as if they can't shoot or do pretty much anything without being told to. But I've since had clarity from Dakkadakka folks, so all is well.
