Subject: Release order of WM Mk2 faction books is revealed

The summer rampage results have been added to the privateer press site and the publishing order of the faction books is revealed.
For Warmachine:
* Cygnar
* Khador
* Protectorate of Menoth
* Cryx
* Mercenaries
And for Hordes
* Skorne
* Trollbloods
* Legion of Everblight
* Circle Orboros
A bit surprising to see cryx finishing last of the real factions in WM.

Yay,was planning to start with Cygnar and now I don't have to wait for too long before their faction book is released.
And yeah,it is a suprise to see Cryx in last place.I thought they were an army heavily orientated towards tournament play,or atleast are used that way.

Only dissapointing in that both my 'factions' will be released right together, Cryx then Mercenaries.

The thing I found surprising about Cryx's poor finish is that they were right up there with Khador and Cygnar for most of the event. A couple of factions must have ganged up on them towards the end.
I play Khador, Cryx, Mercs, and Circle. Everything is nice and spread out for me, though I'd rather Circle didn't completely tank the whole thing. I don't think they held any territories at all during the whole event.

Well, whatever, Phil. You're going to be buying all the books, same as me.

Actually Cryx was in a solid 2nd Place for the whole thing until a few days before finish. Then they decided to make a power play and try to pull Cygnar off the top rung of the ladder. When they spread their forces thin, Menoth took back one of their territories from Cryx, and the Trollbloods took another of Cryx's lands. This left Cryx with 1 of their three, while two other factions went from 1 to 2, since Cygnar held the Cryx off from their full force invasion. They pulled that power play too late in the game to come back from that hit.

Not sure it was that organized.
But anyway, nice to see my Trollbloods in 2nd place for the hordes, I didn't think we would get that far since Trolls are considered weaker than the other armies.

Yes, the Hordes MKII field test will go live when MKII Prime comes out, so starting Jan everything will be MKII in some form.

Also keep in mind that the Hordes mk2 will be tournament official. The core rules, by that point, will be set and stable, which only leaves individual unit tweaking.
Otherwise, all events and more are done in Mk2 in 2010.

Besides, Tournament Official has always referred to pretty much whatever the Tournament

How so? Events supported directly by Privateer Press Employees are
planned as MK2 official, Hordes and Warmachine.

I thought they announced a disconnect? It was discussed on a couple of podcasts about how the small window of "unofficialness" might cause some upset but be worth it in the long run.

They said they were concerned about a disconnect. However, they made it clear on one of the WM & H podcasts around that the Hordes Mk2 rules that will be released when the Warmachine Mk2 rules will be the defacto rules for Hordes.
They did this for two reasons, one they wanted to avoid the disconnect. And the second reason is that Warmachine Mk2's beta was unofficial on not tournament legal due to the core rules not being finalized. However, since Hordes Mk2 are based on the same finalized rules as Warmachine Mk2, with added Fury and Warlock rules, they can go ahead and have everyone play with them.
Not to mention that all Warmachine will be using the Mk2 rules from 2010 on out, so not making the hordes rules official would be a slap in the face.

Cross posted from the Privateer Press Forums, from PPS_DC (one of the game designers)
QUOTE
Based on some recent discussions, I've come to realize that some folks are a bit unclear on what this whole MkII thing means for them in 2010. Most of this information is repeated from various other announcements, but to summarize:
2010 is MkII. Officially. All official PPS_Events (including Hordes-inclusive events) will be run in MkII. The Hordes Field Test will be released concurrently with the WM MkII materials needed to play the game (Prime and the faction card decks). TempleCon, for example, will be running sanctioned, mixed MkII events.
Some questions have been raised as to why we said WM Field Test was unofficial yet the H! Field Test will be pseudo-official for several months. For one thing, WM and H! are meant to be fully compatible. We did not wish to promote game play throughout 2009 that leaves a portion of the player base behind. Another major consideration is that the core rules were still in flux leading up to the field test (and even briefly right after the field test during continued WM MkII playtesting). Having locked core rules makes a big difference when it comes to the state of a game. Will the Hordes field test bring us changes? Sure. Maybe the Pureblood Warpwolf will have a stat tweak or the Immortals will have some ability tweak. But core rules will not change - they simply can't. The Hordes Field Test will be perfectly functional for the 6-ish months that it is what is available.
The final Hordes MkII rules will be available around mid-way through 2010. Just as the WM card decks will come out around the time of Prime MkII, the H! MkII card decks will come out around the time of Primal MkII.

You know what would be such a nice thing? If they did a "Forces of Warmachine" box set that was all 5 for a cut down price. Maybe with the WM logo on the spines if you lined them up. Sorry I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.
On the plus side, I play Cygnar and my main opponent plays Khador so we're both happy

Thanks for that
So I assume under this new plan that the Hordes test will not force you to sign up to a special forum to request a download? The fact they are making it more mainstream would mean that exercise would only frustrate users.

I know it is slightly off topic, but what is the verdict on MK II anyway?
I loved the game in Prime and Esc. but started hating it once Apotheosis and Superiority released. I think it was the combos and MTG in a mini's game that drove me away...
From the folks that are playing MKII rules, does the MK II pare down the number of rules and abilities and make combos less significant? Does it make 'jacks more / as useful as infantry?
( For the record, I have alot of skin in the game...I have about 6000 points of Cyg / Men / Kha / Circle / Troll and Merc riding on the answer...)

Never count on rolling to save your ass. More often than not, average in tight situations runs far below average. |

In a game where models activate completely, I think it's difficult to get away
from combos. What has been pared down (from what we can tell from the
Field Test) is that certain things suddenly aren't no brainers.
So character jacks were nerfed though that's made up for by the general
buff that all warjacks got in general.
They're still going to get swarmed by infantry, but I think in MK2 it'll be
more cost effective to run them into hordes of troops. For one thing, it'll
be harder for troops to tarpit an entire wing of your force due to formation
being based on the position of the unit leader. Secondly, elite units with
elite unit attachments cost as much as heavy warjacks, and don't benefit
from any free points the way warjacks do. Therefore, it's probably
more advantageous for you rather than less to have a warjack tied
down by infantry.
It's mostly the same game, though.

Combos have always been significant in Warmachine, and always will.
What Mk2 does is rebalance and streamline things so it's not as cut and dry what people take.
Jacks have gotten a huge boost in effectiveness. First, they can't be disabled, only destroyed. And if they lose a weapon system, they can still use it, just with one less die to attack. It's also easier and faster to repair jacks. Most jacks have had their basic stat lines improved, such as melee focused jacks getting MAT7. Almost jack power attacks have had their attack penalties removed, or if not that, their usefulness improved.
Case in point, there are new rules for trampling where all units affected by a trample (regardless of whether you hit on the attack roll or not) do not get free strikes. Previously, units who were affected and missed would get a free strike, which was common enough since warjacks tended to have poor MAT ratings. Now, the combination of this rule change and higher MATs for warjacks means you'll be trampling a whole lot of infantry, then using the extra focus to pound on something behind the infantry you just stepped on.

It took you until Apotheosis to figure out that WM was a game based on combos?!?
Wm always was and always will be M: TG in miniatures form. The structure of the game is based upon that concept.
