Hey Guys,
I recently got into this hobby about a year ago when one of the guys I went to Iraq with was hurt and wheel chair bound. He eventually got out of the Navy and started working as a Navy civilian. I ran into him after not seeing him for two years. He asked me if I knew what Warhammer was...I had no idea. I went to his condo outside Washington DC and saw that he had what seemed like a toy store. It seemed my old friend had collected several large armies. Well, he asked me a few questions to gage my style and reccomended a fantasy army and a 40K army. I have been hooked ever since. My friend just died on the 4th of July weekend this year. THe wounds he suffered in Iraq finally caught up with him. He wrote a few final notes to me while he was in the hospital on what I could do to improve my army. He also asked that after he died that we played a game of 40K after the wake. We honored his request.
Anyway, I thought that after Stu passed away I would stop playing, but I am still here, and hoping to learn from you veterans. I am excited at interacting with you all, and I am glad to be part of the Dakka forum!
Dave

Hey Jeb!
The very first thing I bought was the battle for Black Reach. My buddy said it would be easy to learn that way. So I started with that and built a Ultra Marine Army expanding from that. I thought the Imperial Guard looked cool, I liked the Armor and the different troops. I am currently working on building that. I one day just wanted to have a good strong enemy to play when friends and family come over, so I put together a Chaos Space Marine Battle Force I bought at GW. Stu suggested the Empire for fantasy since I liked the IG. I went out and bought that and an opposing army for the Empire so I went with the Vampire Counts. For some reason, I really liked the Orcs, so I bought both Fantasy and 40K. Everyone says I am crazy for trying to do all that, but I am having a good time so far!!!

Glad to hear you are enjoying it so far. Put up some pics and post your army lists soon. I know we would all like to see them.
