A friend of mine was playing a PlanetStrike mission, Seize and Destroy. This has the defender divide his forces in half, with the attacker choosing which half is deployed.
Once the set up was completed and the opponent chose which half was to be deployed, my friend decided to keep some of the units from the chosen half in reserve. His opponent refused this and said every unit has to be on the table (or in a bunker/bastion/etc.), which seems to blatently contradict the Deployment and Reserves rules (pg 94, in particular).

Is this just me missing something again, or was he simply caught in shenanigans?

The eye of terror.

He simply chooses which half the opponent can make deployment decisions for. I see no reason why the defender cannot choose to reserve some of the chosen units.

That being said, I don't have the PS book to be able to read the rule. Do you have any more detail?

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

The only stipulation in the "Garrison" rules, above the normal rules in this regard, is that one unit must be deployed into or in base contact with, the main Bastion (the objective).

editing to add:
"Garrison" being the rule that modifies the deployment options for this mission. (Outside of PS's own changes)

Well, it's Planetstrike, it is Mini Apoc. Work it Out!

However, I agree that RaW you can choose to deploy all but 1 unit in reserve, but the Intent seems to be that you cannot, especially the line about "not leaving such a vital place undefended"

I can only assume that was why my friend's opponent thought the way he did. However, that line is attached to the rule mentioning, and used to explain why, one unit must be inside or in base with the objective Bastion.

As for working it out, I think that is appropriate where rules are vague or contradictory, but I do not see that as the case, here. Besides, my friend let the opponent decide most of the rules. He is polite that way.

At least it seems I did not miss anything this time.
