Pretty concise clip talking about most of the major problems involved with this whole situation.
I was never in support of this war, but at this point pushing it is really not very helpful. It is obvious (to me at least) that staying there much longer simply is not an option, but unfortunately I do feel we will be stuck there for many years to come.
Training more native soldier is a necessary step, and I hope that becomes the main priority for quite some time. There really is no other option besides this, and I am quite sure that Afghanistan will be very happy about it.
Very, Very nice. That is all. This post wins the thread.

War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war...becomes routine.
War is the generous distribution of agony and despair through the unflinching barrel of a gun...

Keep in mind that it isn't just a matter of Afghanistan, but Pakistan as well. The Pakistani government won't let us support them directly (smart move), so the best we can do is buttress them with air strikes on near-border targets.
Tangentially, we handed out airbases in Saudi Arabia over to the Saudis a while back. Its highly unlikely that we'll be abandoning their Iraqi replacements any time soon. Though that doesn't mean there will be any kind of massive deployment to Iraq. Our peak, peacetime deployment to SA was only about 7000.

Our eventual arrangement with quasi-client states tends to revolve around the construction of an airbase, and the deployment of military advisers.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
