Hey Guys,

I've been playing 40k and I've decided I'd like to plan for a FB army as well... But I am completely and utterly helpless in the face of all the various armies: So I thought I'd outpour my strategy "philosophy" when it comes to more "Classic" warfare:

I want an army with a strong solid base that can wear the opponent down from afar: With disciplined troops that can hold enemy troops at bay: In short, they are confronted by a killing ground covered in crossfire from artillery/guns/whatever, and a brick wall they cannot penetrate... But I don't like Dwarves

But are those tactics realistic? Do I need mobile units in the form of cavalry? How can I counter a breaking line... I don't even really know too much how WHFB is played; so I guess I need an intro as well as tactics suggestions

I really, really really would suggest Dwarfs.

But, failing that, the Empire would be your best bet.

Your "Disciplined Troops" can be Greatswords and Flagelleants, both being Stubborn and Unbreakable, respectively.

If you are going to play this type of army though, you will need some magic defense.

You can use light cavalry such as pistoliers to slow down your opponent, and you can use Knights to finally break the enemy in combat.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Well, after Dwarves, I'd say Empire has the next best artillery, but I wouldn't say that their troops are "an impenetrable wall". Still, they're a good all-around army, and their detachment system gives them quite a bit of flavor over other armies.

Cryonic is right, though, they're a bit light on magic, relatively speaking.

Dark Elves can also provide a devastating shooting phase while still providing you with hard elite infantry.
