Has anyone else had this idea before me? Well, obviously, but has anyone done it? I tried searching the internet for somewhere with photos, but couldn't come up with anything. I thought a group of steampunk themed marine would look awesome, but that's just me.

I think i'd be pretty cool. I'd probably reference WM models as they have that particular asthetic about them.

Steampunk is pretty fething awesome.

Ive always loved the look and feel of it. Shouldnt be too hard to accomplish. As LucasLAD said, WM look steampunky, so just trying to adjust that for a marine

Anybody who would have any material should post. Maybe a sketch !

I for one think steampunk space marines would be a great idea... although steampunk Iron Warriors might even be cooler. Anywho, I found this pic of a steampunk iron man. Maybe it'll be useful reference material.

You could save yourself some time and build some Orks. I dont care what anyone says, Orks are steam punks for sure

Orks are a lot easier to do this for, as their tech is expected to look very ramshackle and hand-built. But with the right fluff - e.g. your chapter has lost its Forgeworld, been fighting in the Eye of Terror for 5000 years without reinforcements, whatever - this could work for marines too, you just need to keep them looking a bit more serious and consistent than orks. It would certainly look very cool.

I think if you scribe armor lines into the space marine armor and added rivets along the seams pretty liberally you'd be well on your way. Remember even though space marines aren't as "elegent" as eldar or as "Clean" as tau they are still a far step from Steampunk.

I have lots of ideas on this now....damnit!

About a year (2?) ago, I was convinced I was going to do a steampunk Marine army for some 40k->Warmachine rules I was writing.. This is about as far as I got. Needs more rivets!

Good point, Power Cosmic, the ork shootas look very steampunkish.

That could perhaps even be an army theme - this chapter might be so desperate for armaments that they steal (and/or replicate/improve) ork weapons and armour.

Dont agree with SM Steampunk

Very unfluffy - how do they do they do add gene seed to new marines if no modern facilities?

I think it's ok - something like the SW 13th Company, the whole Chapter was cut off from the rest of the Imperium for many centuries, they've had to make do with whatever they could get, endlessly repairing old equipment and using whatever 'primitive' tech they can find on local worlds, they have some ingenious engineers and have managed to maintain all their equipment to the same stats as 'normal' marines, but all their equipment does look rather weird and clunky They're even managing to keep the geneseed processing going, at great difficulty and perhaps at lower than average success, but they won't be telling anyone else that.

This would be great for a renegade chapter, now fighting purely for their idea of Good and being contemptuous of those softies who've 'had it easy' back in the Imperium.

I was planning to make Steampunk marines once by using the poison wind globadiers (you know, the Skaven) backpacks as the marine power packs, I gave up because it would have been too expensive.
