Hey i was hoping there was some kind of army builder program i could run on my macbook? I cant find any and was hoping to use one

That's something that the Mac commercials leave out - there's very little support for niche programs.

That's why Macs have a thing called bootcamp on their OS. You can install windows and run both OS. I have XP on my mac so when I need to use AB, I just hold the option key down and the computer boots in windows. Additionally, you can take it a step further and buy a software called parallels that allows you to run both at the same time so there is no need to reboot. Commercials don't have to advertise something that someone can learn when they are shopping for a computer...specifically a Mac.

I just use Numbers, personally. There's been a couple efforts to make Mac and/or Linux based army builders, but none seem to go anywhere.

Yes, unfortunately army builder does not support macs, but if you have an intel-based mac you can indeed boot your computer up as a PC to run 'PC only' software. And as CaptK mentioned Boot Camp is one (of several) programs that will allow you do this.

yea i didnt want to make this into a mac vs pc thing so sorry. If i do run bootcamp do i have to buy a windows os or can i just dl armybuilder and itll run through bootcamp. I am not computer savy at all.

Also in terms of actual security linux is by far the most secure, followed by windows, and lastly mac.

I'm not going to debate what operating system is the best. I have a mac at home and I have always had a concern that if I run Windows it will make my computer more vulnerable to viruses... It could just be a bad perception on my part. You can run Windows on your mac and if you can afford the commercial software that Captain K mentioned I think that is the best solution. I believe that Windows 7 is currently freeware now (could be wrong) this is a good time to install it with Boot Camp. I have a laptop that runs Windows and that is what I use to run Army Builder version 3.2.

You are right that windows base is more vulnerable to viruses, because most viruses are targeted at windows. However macs are less hack-safe, and a windows computer can be made nigh-invulnerable to viruses by use of firefox with a no-script addon.
If I remember correctly windows 7 is in beta so it is free to download.
If you are an average computer user and don't want to have to use a web browser plug-in you would probably be safer with a mac.

There used to be a website (army roster?) that did army builder stuff online but it was shut down.

That is hilarious. Macs don't have better security. They simply have a very small market share and as such, it isn't in the interest of hackers to make viruses to attack Macs.

You don't *HAVE* to run xp. You can run WINE if you're willing to take a few moments and aren't afraid of the possibility of using a command line. There is a WINE wiki that can help most any issue you have. Bootcamp is *not* necessary, and certainly not a requirement.

Initially there also was the inconvenience of writing virii for a RISC processor. The memory calls are a pain making the effort to reward the determining factor. There are many other contributing factors to your oversimplification, that are best discussed elsewhere.

No computer or OS is completely secure unless you physically isolate the machine from other users and the network.

If you're going to run Windows on OSX you will need a copy of the Windows OS whether you are dual booting or using a virtual machine like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

Security through obscurity is a myth. Use what you want. Why should I care?

WINE, as mentioned, is an option. There's what is essentially a 'spiffed up' commercial version of WINE available from Codeweavers called Crossover that might work as well.

I have Parallels on my Mac, and it can be a bit sluggish. If I needed something like Army Builder I might try Crossover or WINE as I believe it's lighter. WINE/Crossover essentially replicate the Windows APIs (I.E. programmers have access to special 'commands' for functions like drawing windows, accessing devices, etc.) while Parallels and VMWare essentially create a virtual machine that runs a separate windows install.

Macs are certainly not completely free from security issues, but a lot of the hacks essentially require downloading and executing an application, which is ultimately the equivalent of being 'intimate' with someone... Don't do it unless you're serious and aware of the consequences, and use protection!
