"As a psychic shooting attack, trace a stright line along the board, starting from the Rune Priest and ending 24" away. This line may pass through terrain. Monstrous creatures, beasts, cavalry, bikes and infantry models that are touched by this line must take an Initiative test.(bgb p.8) If the models fails the test, it is removed from play. Monstrous creatures subtract 1 from thier dice roll due to their tremendous size and strength. A roll of a 6 is always a failure."
Ok as you can see this psychic attack is very powerful and comes free on a 100 point model of which 4 can be in an army. My question is this. Can this be used to snipe guys such as melta gunners, plasma gunners, ect? Will bodyguards help protect IG characters from this? Can anyone tell me if they think this is way over the top for killing things such as Carnfex's, Necrons, Tau, etc? Maybe I am crazy but wow this skill can crush many armies. Also does anyone see any loopholes on how to beat it? The worst part is that you dont even need LOS to use this skill.
I dont know if you guys know but SW's also got a new psychic attack that does D6 S7 attacks that doesnt require LOS and has unlimited range. This will not only crush many vehicles but wow squads such as IG heavy weapon squads.

And this is a rules question because? It has a very limited range. Also, you do need LOS. It is a shooting attack.

With an initiative of 1 a fex is fethed.
With upgrades theres still a 50/50 chance he is fethed (with the bonus from the jaws rule)
To be honest, i would say you cant snipe characters since its allready amazing, but in game, i think it will do.
The way its written does not suggest that you cannot snipe characters from units, also, since it is using a simple line to target models i doubt you can remove a model from a unit when it wasnt him who took the hit.

So the rumors were wrong that you are limited to 1 of each type of character? Cause if you are, then you can only have 2 of them: 1 from a regular WP and the other from the special character WP.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Ah yes, another update that makes mechanizing almost mandatory for competitive play... good thing GW vehicle kits are cheap! You've got to hand it to them though, they really know how to turn a profit.
In all seriousness, it sounds like I'll soon have to bust out Inquisitor Bob and his mystical friends to save my IG from certain doom. Maybe dig out my Culexis for s&g?

Quit moaning DoW.
Yes, the attack is fething crazy, but at the end of the day its still a T4 3+ marine using it, so instant death at the start of the game is still an option.
Lets face it, every army takes anti-tank, put it to use and kill him early to save problems.

Not in this third world country called Ireland. Also not everyone has the luxury of being next door to a GW (I happen to have to undertake a 3.5 hour round trip to go to my closest one). Furthermore, Humans are prone to, well, Human Error. Until we all have the codex to reference, we cannot be sure of the exact wording. Seems crazy powerful for 100pt character, though so Im hoping that its wrong, because for IG officers this will be a nightmare.

Have some consideration for your fellow posters, sir or madam!
There are poor, down trodden souls such as myself who live in states without a Games Workshop store, and in order to get to one would have to either cross an international border, or drive eight hours to Chicago *shudder*. Just imagine if you're one of the poor sods living in South Dakota, man. Gwar,
It is perfectly fine for someone to post a question from a codex that hasn't been released yet, especially as in this case where he has (apparently) quoted the rules in question.
While you or I may not have the codex in our possession there may be others that do (or have access to it) and all of us can give our opinion on the rules as he has posted them, obviously with the caveat that anything we say is based on only partial (unverified) information.
I do agree that there is little point on discussing whether the rules are over-powered or not because too many other factors are still unknown in order to make that kind of determination.
But I am going to go ahead and lock this thread because it seems to be already veering off-topic.
To the OP: I would say that based on the rules you've posted you would indeed be rolling per model actually hit by the power which does mean that individual models in a unit could essentially be 'sniped'.
