Subject: Can Commander Shadowsun take a set of bodyguards?

Okay I know Commander O'Shovah can take a set of bodyguards from 1-7 crisis battle suits (as stated on page 45). Now I've been looking (I am probably blind as a bat) to see if Commander Shadowsun can at least take the standard number of bodyguards or more like O'Shovah. Could someone help me out please? Thanks a ton.

I don't believe she can. For the reason that it would somewhat contradict her rogue stealthy awesomeness.
I am sure you could house rule that you can take some stealth suit bodyguards.

EasyE is correct, only those characters with the Bodyguard special rule may take a Bodyguard unit.

She can take a bodyguard of 1 command link drone and 2 shield drones.
Although that's probably not what you are after.
|
Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Actually the command link drone and the shield drones are considered wargear - not a bodyguard.

Yeah, but that still does not mean she can take a Bodyguard, as she has no option to take one, unlike Farsight who does.

But they form a 4 model unit with her and until the 3 drones die she is not an IC, they are a retinue in everything but name.

True she does not have IC status. All other commanders with drones are considered independent characters however and can join squads. Shadowsun is special in that regards and because of the fact that she cannot take a bodyguard either. Just think of he as a dual fusion blaster toting assassin with a couple of drones following her around. She works on her own but supports the rest of the army. The 18" Ld 10 radius comes from the command-link drone as well.

Drunkspleen - definitely NOT a retinue as only ICs can have retinues (under the IC section in the rulebook for a start....) meaning only 1 KP for the entire unit.

Not precisely. It is rare, but there are exceptions.
See the thread about Tyranid Kill Points.

Not that this changes this discussion much.

And its debateable there if it makes any difference that they describe them as a "retinue" - it doesnt give up extra KP as the HT isnt an IC, and the same here.

I'll give you that, it was an oversight I neglected to consider, I simply meant that in terms of how they function on the board they are very similar to a retinue, but yes, they would not qualify as a true retinue and would be only a single kill point. Automatically Appended Next Post: nosferatu1001 wrote:And its debateable there if it makes any difference that they describe them as a "retinue" - it doesnt give up extra KP as the HT isnt an IC, and the same here.
The rule which states retinues give an extra KP does not refer to ICs, it only refers to characters, which includes upgrade characters.
By RAW if something is referred to a retinue, then the character that retinue is accompanying is worth a kill point as is the retinue, regardless of IC status.

Yes a retinue always gives up an extra KP. Things besides an IC can have a retinue as kirsanth stated above.

Not too sure on that one.
Most folks seemed to disagree with that statement last time, as well.

Nowhere in the Tau codex does it state that drones are a retinue. Drones cause Shadowsun to lose her IC status but they are not units but instead are considered wargear. If shadowsun is lost then all drones are lost with her. This is true for any model that has a drone controller. When the model with the drone controller is destroyed all drones taken as wargear for that model are destroyed.

The rules for retinue (still) state that the unit does not need to be called "retinue".

Drones are not a separate unit - they are wargear and taken as such. How is wargear a KP?
