Hey,

We got into a discussion during the weekend when I placed an inferno cannon 'plate over some orcs.
I was under the impression that you
1: place the plate, covering as many models as possible
2: Roll BS
3: If ( success ) { hit count = model count } else { hit count = model count / 2 }

I can't find any of this in the rules, the only thing I can find is on p.29, indicating that flamers are autohit. No BS roll.

Did I make the other rule up in my head, or has there been anything like this before?

Thanks.

Hellhound Infernos (I assume that is what you are referring to) use the same rule as other flamer weapons....whatever the template touches is auto-hit. No more rolling to hit BS anymore, that was the old IG codex.

Reread the entry for hellhound infernos in the new IG codex. The only rule is has is that the narrow end MUST be within 12" and that the wide end cannot be any closer than the narrow end; in other words, you can't turn the template back on itself.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

I just got the urge to field another squadron of Hellhounds.

Maybe I should call my unit "Beavis' Own" now.

The eye of terror.

The inferno cannon in the last dex worked similar (but not the same) to how you've described in your first post.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Yep, 'twas an Hellhound but it at least explains where I'd gotten the rule from.

Started to get a little worried that I was subconsiously creating rules making the game more difficult for myself. ;-)

Thanks for the clarification.

There was lots of bitching about the reduced range of the hellhound and how you couldn't put the template anyway that you want.

However, not having a 50/50 chance of only hitting half the models under the template is big boost in my opinion! Sadly Siege Dreadnaughts are still stuck with the old rules.

But the old range of 24" included the template, didn't it?
And since the plate is almost 12", the net effect is more or less the same, it's just simpler to measure. And easier to hit. Double-plus-good.

I know. It's got very slightly less effective in terms of placing the template but there's no hit roll and it's fast.

Some people just like to complain.

Just over 8" actually. But yes, combined with the Hellhound now being a Fast vehicle, the effective range of the 'new' Hellhound actually increased over the 'old' Hellhound. Old=move 6", fire out to 24", total effective range 30". New, move 12", fire out to 12" plus 8" template, effective range 32". However, in practice, due to having to cover the most models possible, you seldom get to use the full 32".
