The ones I have came in blister packs, so they are metal. I think they look great, though for some reason in game they refuse to hit a thing!!

My scouts need more training in using their firearms

Wow, that's amazingly annoying... because a sniper team will totally use a roaring missile launcher

Eeeeh... to ebay!

And stealthy scouts, in general, would use bolt pistols and chainswords?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

yes, just attach a silencer to them, imagine it, silenced chainsword!! They'd never even hear you cutting them in half

Scouts in a Landspeeder Storm are hardly stealthy

Yeah I know, I got a box and was hoping to give them the heavy bolter
But, you get four with camo cloaks and a normal one with a missile launcher, look at their stealth on the front of the box.
But you do get 6 sniper rifles in a box.

Actually, In the previous codex I used to run two teams of five scouts with 4x snipers and 1x missile with very good success in supporting the rest of my army. They weren't game breaking, but they presented an annoying distraction for my enemy as well as taking pots shots every turn. Snipers gave you the chance to possibly slow advancing enemy troops by not only taking out models, but also the chance of pinning. The missile was a good addition as you could either try to instant death a model, or take out multiple.

Yes it doesn't mean to match, silent snipers mixed witha roaring missile, but game wise its very effective IMHO

In the newer codex you get camo cloaks, as mentioned above, but I'm as yet to field scouts using the new codex, though I can only imagine that they will work even better if you buy camo cloaks. I am fully intending to run with Telion with a team in a future battle.

I think it shows the Space Marines stealth well.... except for Raven Guard, they do it right.

I used it for a few games and agree it is probably way more useful than the Heavy Bolter would have been. They even had some rolled up camo cloak in the box, I would have perfered all of the models to have the camo cloak but it doesn't really matter anyway. The Ork and Tyranid skulls are nice though. That ML has saved them a coupe of times and tends to kill more than the snipers

I have a squad of 4 w/ sniper rifles, a missile launcher and Telion. They're dark green and black with camo cloaks and to make them extra Space Marine stealthy... bright orange shouler pads.

Scout snipers have uniformly performed horribly for me. I made a habit out of taking them every single game, since 5 sniper rifles and a heavy bolter (hellfire shells!) should prove useful. Regrettably, in all that time, I only got one wound, and that was because I rended against a Carnifex.

Hopefully they're serving someone better now, as I swapped them for a trade from Sweden.

Now Wolf Scouts on the other hand... those guys have been game-winners on a regular basis.

5 CC/BP scouts with melta bombs on the Sgt. in a Storm with Multimelta is a new must for my armies. Its like 165pts or so for a squad that managed to destroy 4 leman russes on the first turn of the semi finals in 'Ard Boyz. And after that they went on to kill two more lemans and a few gaurdsmen. Thats 6 tanks destroyed for 165pts and starts the killing the first turn if you go first! Snipers on the other hand I do still use two groupd of five hidding in the augmented ruins made by my techmarine. They do there job and grab objectives on my board edge late in the game.

I've not got many games under my belt... But Snipers with Telion (vs Chaos every time) have rarely done well for me...

I've finally constructed my storm (with a bolter? Bad idea?) and 5 CC scouts... we'll see how well they do!

A new day, a new time zone.

Well, once a sniper starts shooting, they've given up the element of surprise. So it's really about how effective you can make that first volley of fire.

Also, snipers fair best against troops, the rending comes in handy for bigger tougher things, but ultimately, leave the bigger stuff for missiles and lascannons
