Subject: Question - Gluing Resin?
|
 |
Irked Necron Immortal

So, hopefully simple enough. I am working on a model that uses a lot of resin parts that I have recently cast, and am now nearing the assembly stage.
What I want to know is what is the best kind of glue to use to glue the resin parts together? Also, if different, what is the best kind of glue to glue non resin (like plastic) parts to the resin?

I'd use superglue. I haven't tried it yet, but i think that will work. Good luck

I've been doing more resin models, and I've found that regular superglue works really well. I use a brand called Mercury Adhesives M300M, if you care to know. Good luck, wanna see what you're working on!

Alright, thanks for the replies, and don't worry, when I finish, I'll post the model on Dakka...

In terms of efficiency and strength, I'd go with super glue. There is some kind of glue that is use specifically for resin type stuff, but from what my friends say, it takes a really long time to dry.
Super glue is pretty quick (although not as fast as plastic to plastic with plastic glue) and it would hold really well, in my experience. Just be careful not to glue your own fingers together!

E-6000 is the best. It takes more time to set up than superglue, but it's also not brittle and it has the strongest hold of any glue I've ever used.

Different brands of superglue may give you different results but I've never had a problem with the stuff GW sells. 2-part expoxy is another possibility but as others have said it takes time to set.

I used regular GW superglue on a FW Dreadnought a couple of years ago, and I've only had to fix it once since. Likewise, I used the same glue for fixing it to a plastic base, and it worked great. I'm not sure about fixing metal to resin though.
Forge World's site actually has a section regarding working with resin: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resinmodels.htm

wow, I actually didn't even notice that FW had a section for resin, either way, it just confirms what you guys are saying: Super glue all the way.
