Gonna be painting my realm of battle board 1 square at a time. Got the paint job done on the first one, now I wanna flock it. But, I want something that won't come off easy when I store it in it's little case and will stay on when I touch it a lot and move pieces around and all that stuff. So, am I better off doing something like static grass, or more like regular green flock. I have a feeling the flock would stay glued on better, but I like the look of static grass more. But in the end I want something that won't all fall off over the years. So, what's better? grass or flock?

I would go with the Flock, Personally. HOWEVER, you could make patches of Static grass... just a suggestion though, do not know how well it would stay.

EDIT: I am not saying it would be a fight, but no one, and I mean no one, can withstand the might of 45,000 US lawyers on a legal rampage...

Flock hit with hairspray would last best in my experience of terrain.
You could use small patches of static grass within the flock and re-apply it every few months?

Flock held down with generous amounts of Pva glue basicly turns to stone so its pretty tough. If you just lightly sprinkle it over pva glue it will stay soft and not last very well. I would suggest putting pva glue and the flock into a small plastic container and mixing it and then basicly spread it where you want it.

So like make some flock paste? maybe I could sprinkle some grass in there with it then. I was going to just paint on white glue and then sprinkle it over that.. guess that won't work.

Does hair spray really work? never heard of using that before

Yup. You can use artists' charcoal, chalk and pastel spray sealant but that costs ALOT more. Just buy cheap £1 a can stuff.
I've never had a problem with any brand but please test it first, I don't want to get in trouble!

Mixing static grass into the paste won't work. As you brush it on you will flatten the grass.
It's the upsidedowntappin'shakin'n'blowin' that makes the grass stand up and work well.
That's not gonna happen when it's too wet.

yeah and I guess if I do add the static grass after the fact and get it to stand up all nice, it will just squish itself flat when I pack the boards up again. Guess I'll go out and get a big can of the woodland scenics flock then. I like the paste idea though, will be a lot less messy I hope.

I have heard of someone doing "mist" technique with some heavily thinned PVA for a sand dune. You could possibly to something similar.

In the sand dune example you have to get a very fine mist to coat the surface and once it dries there will be a thin crust. When the crust has formed you can be a little more liberal with the thinned PVA and get it nice and wet. Once that dries the dunes are pretty much rock solid.

What do you think about doing a spray mist to seal the flock?

that could work too I guess. I know woodland scenics makes a special thinned down white glue that you can use for that, and they also sell a spray bottle attachment. I kind of worry about the mess though, I live in a condo, no basement or garage do something like this in. I guess I could do it out on my balcony though if the weather is nice.

Static grass work fine. I have used it on my board. I use a heavy load of watered down PVA glue, then sprinkled static grass (from Citadel Scenery Painting Pack) with a colander. Padded it down, let it dry for 2 hours, then removed the excess.
After that I used 3 cans of spray varnish, 5 coats in total over the whole thing (all 6 tiles). Have been logging it around in my car and so on for 4-5 months now, and it still looks good.
Very, very little grass have come off. I could maybe fill half a thimble (just looked in the button of the case).
Satatic grass looks soo much better then flock.
