I'm attending the 40k Ard Boyz finals this week, and staying a couple extra days (Flying in tomorrow afternoon, flying home sunday afternoon). Trying to decide what things to do and see in the area, as I've spent all of about half an hour in Chicago in my life. If anyone has any recommendations for sightseeing, get togethers (if also attending), best places around for Chicago style pizza, etc. in the area, I'd love to hear them.
Factors:
-Arriving early evening Thursday, event is most of the day (9AM til 8PM or so) Friday, flying out on Sunday. Gives us Thursday/Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning as free time.
-By "us" I mean myself and my girlfriend. Which means suggestions really close to the Battle Bunker for her during the day Friday would be potentially useful, in case she gets bored or we're just plain short on room at the event.
-Not terribly interested in the White Sox, and the Cubs aren't playing at home this weekend to my knowledge.
-If anyone has spare tickets to the Alice in Chains concert at HoB, PM me.
-Any other events I missed (aka weren't listed on stubhub)?
-Our hotel is about half a mile from the Battle Bunker, so we're outside metro public transportation range.
-Trying to rent a car, although coughing up cash for a taxi for most of the transportation over the weekend is a distinct possibility, so multiple places in walking distance is a plus. (Stupid age restrictions, couldn't rent a car through Travelocity because I was too young by a week).
Appreciate any suggestions you might have!

You can often get last-minute concert tickets actually at the venue, if you travel down to the HoB.
There's not a ton to do out near the Bunker - it's suburban wasteland. If you can get transport to the downtown area, there are ton of museums, aquariums, zoos, and that sort of thing.
Bears/Steelers are playing on Sunday, though that's a hard (read as expensive) ticket to come by.
Also, the event is Saturday, not Friday. FYI.

There's two decent malls relatively close to the Bunker if your GF is the shopping type. Oakbrook is the better of the two, though its also the one that's farther away.
There isn't a whole lot within walking distance, as the suburbs aren't designed for the car-less. A bunch of restaurants, and a couple bars, but otherwise just standard strip mall fare.
I don't know what the closest Metra (train to the city) stop is. Probably Downer's Grove - Belmont. You'll need a car/cab to get to it though.

D'oh!!! Glad I planned to stay the weekend! I don't have a clue how I missed that... I spent weeks wondering why it was a Friday...
