Ok so in 2 of my classes we wrote an essay about how we would rule the world.
im not going to go into deatail about mine but a discussion in class brought up a question that i would have liked to see some opinions on
would you want to live in a wolrd where
A: People live without any freedom or the right to vote but do to that there is no poverty
OR
B: people live in a world where there are tons of personal liberties but that meant poverty.

-to many points to bother to count.

Absolute poverty (not having the necessities of life), or relative poverty (not having as many resource when compared to the rest of the world)?

If you chose B, you're selfish.
If you chose A, good on ya! You're willing to make a few sacrifices for the 'greater good'.

So we all get to eat and drink... but we have to do it while literally living in tiny boxes?

Think closet space I suppose, and then you redefine poverty and BAM!!! Shake and bake baby, back to square one .

Second this opinion.

My answer to the original question. feth the greater good. No one complains when they have roof over their head..and if they do, torture them and make them an example.

If you chose A, then you're probably hoping to be rich and living the good life. Ignoring the people starving outside. You do whatever the feth you want, whenever the feth you want to. There are no morals, no boundries, you 'liberites' allow you to ignore these at the expense of others. For lack of a better word, you are selfish.

Selfishness is a survival trait. Of course, our ability to help each other is what allowed us to prevail as a species, so there needs to be balance. And all the meth-dealing welfare cheats should be made to move to Somalia and spend the rest of their lives irrigating the desert.

People are allowed to be selfish... because if they have the power, what are you planning to do about it? *turns on microphone*

If you choose B.) you obviously think that a roof will make your life complete... because that in effect, is the last thing you will get after the bowl of rice you have to share with a hundred thousand billion people. In essence you are way too compassionate, and your breath smells funny too.

Beyond the more obvious parts though, someone will always be selfish, so the whole idea is just strange. A better world is most definitely possible, but offering

A.) Do you want Communism?

-or-

B.) Do you want Anarchy/Free market economies/ I don't even really know what the feth this means?

is... well it really speaks for itself... that may be the reason I got in so many arguments with my ever so unionized teachers when in school.

Anyhow, a sucessful A) scenario is simply impossible. People are just too darn greedy.

1. Assuming that everyone who voted B expects to be unaffected by the poverty is making a strawman out of their position.

2. The poll didn't say there were "no morals or boundaries", it said there were tons of personal liberties. There's no reason to believe that means complete lawlessness and havoc; to the contrary that would render the poll worthless. Answer B wouldn't even be a contender.

3. You have A and B mixed up.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I want to vote for the option that lets me nail Angelina Jolie and Taylor Swift on a regular basis in a consensual manner (and Pink too, she's hot).

So I choose whatever option that scenario would most likely occur in.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Realistically (yeah, yeah, yeah; I know that the scenario throws realism right out the window. But this is my response to the question. Don't like it? Hit my ignore button), there is no choice. If you have A for long enough, then they will eventually take back B.

So the choices given are A): The Eldar empire just before the birth of Slaanesh

OR

B): The Imperium where everything is falling apart a lot slower.

@Orkeosaurus:

1) The whole argument of A is that there IS NO poverty. That you sacrifice your personal liberaties for the good of all.

2) You have the right to do whatever the feth you want. Including fething up other peoples lives. That's basically what a 'ton' of personal liberties involves. An argument for a rapist would be 'but I have the RIGHT to screw who I choose'.

3) Thanks. -_*

4) I have the right to consensual sex with Angelina and Taylor, at the same time!

Ahem. Poor and able to do what I want or wealthy but unable to do jack?

I choose poor and able to do what I want cuz I'm TFG.

Can I combine 1 and 4?

Of course this idea rests on the assumption that poverty is an absolute. In reality poverty is relative. The poor in the US are hardly comparable to the poor in Somalia. If everyone is equally squalid then there really is no poverty. Don't be too quick to jump on ideas because they sound good, you have to examine the possibilities behind them. Everything could potentially be much worse.

I still personally like #4 the best.
