I've been following Dakka for a while and thought I should join up (rather than just shamelessly plunder ideas from people far more talented at modelling than Myself).

Also I have a slight modelling problem and was hoping anyone would be kind enough nudge me towards a solution.


I currently attempting my first real conversion for my SM Captain with Relic blade (spear) and Combi-Flamer.
I'm trying to get some ornate prong coming from the head of my Captain, using 0.10 plasticard and GS.

Hopefully that image comes up showing roughly (okay very roughly) what I'm trying to acheive.

I cant get the curve right on the plasticard, and I cant get it to stick down properly ( used plastic and super glue. neither work.
The Mk6 six head I'm using it still in reasonably good shape considering it been glued and GS'ed every day for a week.

Basically I'm need help actually executing this.

You kind advise would be appreciated, Ill try to get actual photos up when possible.

Upload straight to Dakka galleries - it makes it much easier!

When I get my necessary cable back from the girlfriend ill stick an actual photo up of what I want to achieve.

Still any tip on fiddly plasicard glueing tips are welcome because I nearly had to go t A&E last night when my fingers just wouldn't come apart after I tried superglue again.

For plasticard, really, the best glue is simply poly cement.

It bonds styrene to styrene permanently (by welding them together). Won't stick your fingers together, either.

Yes, it is noxious, and has to be used with good ventilation (and away from naked flames).

Use the brush on stuff for best control.

Thanks Chromedog, I'll venture back to give it another go once i get brush on poly cement. I may dig out an old brush I don't need to used instead.

Getting brush poly cement never occurred to me but i shall persevere.

The liquid plastic solvent is heaps better than the GW stuff.

I find Revell semi-liquid cement is good. It can be dotted right where you need it with the pin applicator and contains a small amount of dissolved poly to give it a bit more grip.

I use both types depending on the circumstances.

I've done it! Got hold of a brush ended poly Cement (Thank Chromedog) And after a bit of work I got it in place (after much pulling of stupid faces while trying to line things up.)

I've just got to GS to round things off.
