Hi -
I was at Harbor Freight the other day (love that place) and I saw they have 3 different bench-top sanders available.

1) A standard 10" disc sander that rotates in a circular motion (duh)
2) A combo sander with a 1" belt and a 4" disc
3) A combo sander with a 4" belt and a 6" disc

Does anyone here have experience or advice on which I should get for only hobby use (sanding down resin terrain from FW to make it sit level, etc)?

I've got a nice 20% off coupon that would make any of the sanders half of what Home Depot charges !!

Thanks !!

I'd go with #3, myself (but I have years of experience with 4" belt linishers (they are not sanders)). My dad was a metal (brass/steel) polisher/plater and I used to help him out to get 'pocket money' - we didn't get paid for chores, we were simply expected to help out.

The round one is fine for edge sanding when you need it straight and flat. For curved edges, you use the belt. You can use the belt for flat bits, but it takes a lot more skill to use properly.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Thanks, Chromedog. I was leaning toward that one, too.

I bought one of these

not the exact same model but a similar one, for a DIY job. It would be fine for sanding resin pieces flat as long as you can fix the piece still, in a vice for instance.

Orbital sander, it's called.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...
