I was thinking I wanted to make a Death Strike Missile Launcher. Whats good to use for the big missile on top that isn't forgeworld? Alot of modern missle launchers are cool looking but what is the right scale?

I did a search for 40k deathstrike and this came up.
http://bluetablepainting.blogspot.com/2009/08/deathstrikes.html

They look cool but what Tamiya model was used for it?

Any other ideas would be great.

Not exactly sure what sie the missile would be, or if you want the missile pre modelled or want to build them up your self, but wouldn't cheap round pens work? The might be a bit long but they could be hacked down, and would cost a minimal amount?

Im trying to convince my friend that he needs to make his deathstrike out of a live model rocket kit, so we could set up a game outside, shoot it off, duck under table and if it lands back on the table he wins.

As much as I like the "giant unfeasible missile" concept of the Deathstrike, I'm a bigger fan of converting a 'targeting' vehicle with all sorts of radar dishes, comms equipment, etc and have the missile firing from a bunker/another vehicle off the board.

Rule wise: you can draw LOS from/to the radar vehicle and since you can never truly 'weapon destroy' the deathstrike missile itself, it makes sense that you would just be damaging the targeting vehicle.
Fluff wise: most large missile systems are not self-contained. They are part of a group of vehicles that fulfill the separate roles of early warning radar, target tracker, transporter/loader and launcher.

Something like the 'Long Track' for instance?

Just another possibility if you don't like the crazy big missile!

Really a rokkit is hard to build... ROCKET. Sorry Im to Orky at times.
Anywho, those are easy to build from pretty much ANYTHING. Id imagine just taking a few measurements to get the size right, and building one from scratch would be the best best. That way the fit is perfect for whatever your building.

Those missiles look too tiny and its an ICBM for goodness sake, it does not need a turret to swivel... It does need to be needlessly huge like the Epic fig or the pics... I am currently working on some plans to make a Deathstrike missile and carrier... once i hunt down the right rocket parts to I will post a drawing... Of course it will have to be motorized to elevate the missile to launch position... not sure if i should work on this or my ACC griffon for the next project...

I know it's 40k, but there isn't a requirement for a missile of that type to be as big as the GW Deathstrike model.

ICBMs have a ridiculously long minimum range due to their trajectory and velocity. Since the Deathstrike has a minimum range of 12" (approximately 15 metres) it would better be classified as a Tactical Ballistic Missile. The model itself is actually scaled much larger than many actual ICBMs with hi-yield conventional payloads (which would result in a much larger relative blast radius than d3+3 inches) so the only reason to make it so large would be your own personal aesthetic preference.

Just in case you think you have to make a huge model to make it seem 'realistic.'

My preference would be something like an SS-21 ICBM carrier.

1/35 would probably do it proud.

I'm gonna make one one of these days. What I decided on was a chimera bottom and missile on top kinda like those from blue table painting but based more on this tank

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreuzer_P._1500_Monster

so it'll be a thinner missile with walkways over the tracks for men to work on it and inspect it and stuff. I think I'm gonna try looking at model rockets, like the kind you put an engine in and shoot up into the air. there's gotta be a good model rocket you can use to model it

Maybe Deathstrikes are just really, really, really inefficiently designed. That's why they need to be so big. Plus being Imperial half the interior of the rocket is probably a shrine to the imperium that auto chants while in flight to keep it on course. The other half is devoted to the Machine God and chants in binary. The explosive itself is secondary.

Why, every self-respecting Lord-Commander should have his own Tactical Nuclear Missile. It is the ultimate expression of "Might makes Right". And if you ask the Tech-Priests nicely, they can deliver it to you painted in the latest fashionable colour. I heard pink with black stripes is all the rage at Sector Command .

Now that is funny. I'm going to have to share that link with a few of my gamer buddies, I think they'll appreciate it.
