Howdy, I figured it'd be more polite of me to post here and say hello before asking some questions! I was looking around for a forum to post some 40k questions and read discussions to try to understand the game more, and I nearly lost all hope. Then I found this site which had a great community, so here I am

My name is David and I'm 18 years old, and I remember when I was growing up (and moving around the states) I'd always go into gaming stores but I never knew what they were about/playing. I'll admit, Dawn of War made me remember about all the Warhammer I saw when I was little and so I looked up some story online. The backstory peaked my interest, and just around that time a local gaming shop opened up!

All I have right now is a Black Reach, but I played a friend's teeny tiny IG army and fell in love, both with the fluff and how it played. So here I am, with my $500 saved up and ready to splurge on some IG, and I have no idea what to do with it.

So I guess my first questions are
a) What forum to I post the question about helping me convert 500 dollars to IG miniatures, or
b) In this thread I'll ask: How do I convert 500 dollars to IG miniatures?
c) What is the demand for Black Reach models? I really have no desire to play either, so is it possible for me to cut my losses for the set at like 75% or 50% retail?

If it helps, the play style I was focusing on can be summarized with "LASGUNS, THOUSANDS OF THEM" whilst Leman Russ Battlecannons just explode all over the place. Possibly Karskins too because I want to get my grubby little hands on them and paint them.

Hi and welcome to Dakka! Glad to see you are a loyal guardsmen and not some heretic or dreaded xeno! But watch out for Emperor's Faithful, he and his dastardly Inquisition are always on the lookout for any potential deviants who may cause problems for the great Emprah! I hear they do all sorts of nasty things, like make you watch Biodome, but not the original blasphemy with Pauly Shore, oh no that would be too nice. Instead they make you watch a cheap Australian remake....have you seen a koala in judge's robes? It is truly horrifying. As far as how you should build your army, since you have that much money buy tanks, tanks and more tanks. Plenty of guardsmen, and heavy weapons teams. I don't know what else to do other then that. Just throw out so much firepower things die instantly. That is all I have for you.

As a word of advice always go for Battalion boxed sets as they save you the most money and give you the most miniatures..

1 HQ Command (5 Models)

40 Guardsmen including Heavy Weapons in the squads

1 TROOP
Command (5 Models)
30 Guardsmen including Heavy Weapons in the squads

1 FAST ATTACK
3 Sentinels

Left over
3 Heavy Weapon Teams
4 Guardsmen

I'm anti GUARD as thats all I playing against. Though I do love the idea of loads of Guardsmen running out of trenches supported by the rolling tanks of iron. ACE

You may wish to consider Chimera's and Sentinels as I normally get bogged down trying to kill them.

As for what you can buy, well, I'm no expert on US currency but I'd say you can get more than enough. You'll probably have dice enough and rulebooks etc from the BR set, so don't worry about those.

How about you go to the store (probably don't buy anything yet) and see what the prices are. You'll need to get the basic troop and HQ choices first up.

1 Command Squad = About 40$ or so
2 Platoon Squads = About 25$
2 Boxes of 20 Guardsmen = About 100$? (might get 3 to be safe)

After that you should still have at least 300$ to play with, so go for it!

Heard of one army with loads of lascannon toting Valkaries which was hard to stop..
