hey dakka...

here is my version of the GW studio scheme for Vulkan...

http://www.coolminiornot.com/232143

this is the second mini in my Gamer's Series, an experiment to see if gamers and collectors are interested in copies of the studio scheme painted to a studio quality...
you be the judge on wether or not i pulled it off, and ebay bidders will be the judge on wether or not there is a market for these minis...

all credit to Joe (Brokenblade) for the original paintjob...
the scheme was a lot of fun to paint...

my pics don't really do this guy justice...
the flames on his cloak, and the highlights on the scales are a lot more subtle in real life...

i hope you all don't mind the abundance of photos, but i felt that the heavy amount of detail really deserved a full 360 view...

i know a lot of people were dissapointed by this model, but i like him...
i'll never paint him again, but i like the sculpt...
the sheer amount of detail is incredible, but doesn't overwhelm the basic marine underneath...

this guy has been painted, once again, entirely with P3 paints...
it's a fun exercise to recreate a GW scheme with a whole different line of paints...
incredibly enough, all the colours are straight out of the pots, with no mixes...

hope you all like the result...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers

Very nicely done.

I also gotta say thank you for the pics as I've been waiting for a 360 degree view of this model for ages. I've always liked it, but only ever seen it front on and as nice as the model is I had my reservations on the pose. However, seeing a 360 degree view renews my love of this model. Looks a lot better when you can see the whole thing. I shall be snipping the mini-banners off the spear on my model though. Also think I'll be painting the inside of the cloak either black or dark red, not that the cream/white is bad, it's just I can't get the image of Elivs out of my head when I see him.

But again, very nice paint job. Any chance of getting a wee tutorial on how you painted the armour?

the armour was pretty simple, really...
the paints are P3 versions of the Gw greens, more or less...

gnarls green=dark angels green
iosan green=snot green
necrotite green=striking scorpion green

gnarls for the basecoat...
followed by a wash of P3 armor wash to act as a darkliner, shader...
a layer of iosan green to establish the shape, and act as the first highlight...
the scales and fine highlights are then painted in with necrotite green...

simple and straightforward, like everything i paint that is aimed for use on the tabletop...

cheers

hey kb305...
thanks for your interest, but next time you can just shoot me a private message with any questions you have...
the mods seem to take a dim view of raising a thread that has been dead for 3 years...
i'm quite impressed you dug this up though...
that's some deep digging...

i think this guy went for $100 or a bit more...
it also led to a few very cool custom Marines for the buyer...

thanks, and feel free to PM me next time you have a question...

cheers
jah
