Just had a look at the Space Wolves on the GW site... £24.50 for 5 plastic Terminators!!! WTF! Nice models, but no wonder I keep changing my mind when it comes to getting back in to 40k

Yeah I know that you can get them cheaper, it's just the principle that they'd have the nerve to charge that in the first place. At the end of the day I can't see me ever going back to it anyway. Investing in the RPG as I think that will give me the game play I want.

Termies have cost that much since what, 2-3 years ago? At least this box gives you almost as many weapons as both the vanilla boxes combined.

It actually has more weapons than a regular box. Has 4 sets of wolf claws, 5 stormbolters, and tons of heavy weapons. Honestly a box I wouldn't mind spending $50 for.

Yea $50 fer toys is redonkulus! But If that's the reasoning you're gonna use then stay home, GW is no place for reason! The box does have way more in it than others of it's kind so not bad Now if we could just see some sprue pics

If you insist on playing with the shiney new toys (which I don't for a couple of reasons) just wait. Give it six months or so after the release of the new miniatures and you will be able to buy poorly painted examples on ebay for a fraction of the cost of new models. if you know what you are doing, stripping miniatures is easy and quick. Best of all you are not giving any money directly to GW. The second hand miniatures market hurts GW's bottom line, which is a good thing.

Depends. I know several people buying 2-3 armies a year, simply because there is such an aftermarket for GW miniatures. Some people will never buy new GW models, but because they buy them second hand, they make it easier for other people to buy more GW after they sell the first batch off. My shop is doing a good business helping people sell their armies on ebay so that they can buy new armies. It's increased my purchases from GW, which does help GW's bottom line.

And, back on topic, the new SW terminators are a better value, and better models, than either of the two current boxes of terminators. Quite happy that they increased the bitz and didn't increase the price. The other box is equally a good deal. Costs the same as a tac squad, and you get 10 models, a huge number of options, and lots of bitz to customize other models.

Same goes for Germany. I ordered for about a thousad euros there. If I had ordered the same stuff from GW Germany id have paid about 2000€. Wayland games is dirt cheap compared to the German GW prices.

Well its become a biot more than just about half of the german price lately, because the british pound recovered a bit, but i still woulve gotten away cheaper by buying my defiler there instead of the local store (and im counting the shipping in here!)

if you're going to buy any terminators, you should get that set since it's the best terminator deal outside of buying space hulk and selling the nontermies. you get 5 terminators and the weapons to make 4 of them either shooty or assaulty. with the vanilla marine termie boxes, you don't get to choose since you only get one type in each box.

The new Space Wolf Plastic Terminators cost the same as the other plastic Terminator sets, so why anyone should be shocked is a bit puzzling. That's not to say that they aren't quite expensive, I won't argue with that, they are extremely expensive, but the pricing is consistent with existing sets of nearly identical models so it's hardly a "WTF" moment.

OK lets be totally realistic folks. The reason they sell Terminators for so much, is because if you play SM, you basically HAVE to have a squad or terminators. Terminators kick so much ass its insane. SO you end up making an excuse for paying that much. Its the way of things.

I still don't understand why anyone buys the regular terminators anyway.

With the sheer amount of bits dealers, buying the AoBR set and then just buying the TH/SS and/or LC sprue's is a much better deal.

If you're not playing SW, you'll still be able to buy the arm sprues from the SW Termi box soon enough.

Actually, most if not all the "deals" I see around on Thunderhammer and Stormshield or Lightning Claw bits are usually quite expensive. The Terminator box list price is $50 and when GW sold the sprues separately through the now defunct bitz service you could buy the arm sprue with ALL the close combat weapons for $25 US. Now it usually costs upwards of $20 just for the TH/SS combos or just for the LC bits.

Watching eBay with some patience can be your friend. I managed to get three boxes of Close Combat Terminators for about the price of two by watching sales on this item for a couple weeks then jumping in on the "right" auctions with modest or no shipping and modest competition on the bidding. I saved 37% over buying them at full price with state sales tax. Extra arms will be used to upgrade Black Reach Terminators and some of my Chaos Terminators.

eBay all the way. I hate putting the armies together and painting them, so eBay works for me.

Interesting how different the hobby can be from person to person,

I buy some things off eBay to save money and supplement what I buy at the store, but in general I only look for new on sprue items. Assembling and painting is the hobby for me and in general I dislike dealing with models that are already assembled by someone else.

I'm mainly in WH40k for the tactical experience. I like tuning army lists and testing my skill/tactics vs other generals. I'd be perfectly happy with prepainted, preconstructed miniatures, assuming I could reconfigure weaponry if needed.

The reason the Space Wolf stuff is more expensive is because it comes with bitz for TWO squads. You get enough Legs bodies and bases for 1 unit, but arms and heads for 2. You are supposed to combine them with a second box of normal Vanilla models to make 2 wolfy squads.

A very clever tactic GW

Um, they are 5p more than the regular SM Terminators, while they are the same prince in Dollars.

I assume P means pieces? or pence, but either way lets take a closer look:
This box set contains five multi-part plastic Space Wolves Wolf Guard Terminators. This 100-piece set includes: five different leg variations, five torso variants and 13 different shoulder guard variants, and 13 heads. Also included are: four sets of wolf claws, an assault cannon, four thunder hammers and storm shields, a heavy flamer, five storm bolters, three power fists, two chainfists, a frost axe, and a power sword. Models supplied with 40mm round bases.

As you can see, you get 5 Bodies, but 3 Spare Shoulder Pads, 7 spare heads, and enough weapons to equip a good 12 or 13 Ternimators. It's clear that you can easily buy a Normal Terminator Squad and mix and match bits. It's a cunning strategy, and makes you THINK you are getting a deal while GW just got you to buy double the models.

Luckily I already have a ton of models and am just gonna wolf them up.
