I use Americana paint. Its twice the size and cost just over a buck. Some people swear its garbage, and others agree its pretty good paint. I love the stuff. I dont know where you would find it in your country, but the HobbyLobby website will have it on there.

I have a few and think they're pretty cool. I'm not to keen on the metallic paint though. Well the bronze anyway, I had to shake it for absolutely ages for it to mix properly.

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports.

if your looking for cheap paint.......applebarrel- you have to thin it down a hell of a lot, but it doesn't look to bad on a mini- also, its fairly easy to strip

These are the paints GW used to sell before they started using the stuff made in France, 95p GBP for a 18ml pot.

You could try the actual Americana website. Im sure they have one lol. I just use the regular old Americana paint to paint everything. And YES you have to use a base coat(usually primer) Thats just as much important a step as actually assembling the mini lol

Infact here is a link.
Click on the product chart. it shows all the colors and the cost (its a dollar more on the net for some reason) and on the bottom of that is a purchase link. Enjoy

+1 for vallejo as well. They cost the same as GW paints , but they come in nice dropper bottles thus convenient and doesnt dry.
Not to mention the quality is WAYYYYYY better than GW junk. ( and cheaper too )

For most colors, I'm a fan of CeramCoat. You can find it at Michael's and similar stores, and I'm willing to bet you can find it online, as well.

As for price, it's $1.39 USD for a two ounce bottle. (As opposed to about $2 for a 1/3 ounce bottle of most hobby store paints.)

I use Ceramcoat paints a lot as well. My only Golden Demon award was painted primarily with Ceramcoat.

I find that the Ceramcoat blues, browns, greys, whites, greens are all quite good, bu the reds and yellows are only okay.

Their metallics are not really worth bothering with, and if you want good metallics I would go with Vallejo or Games Workshops lines.

Grim:

I agree, only a couple of their shades of red are ok, but their yellow pretty much sucks. Even over a white basecoat, it takes multiple coats of yellow.

Now, their metallic paints are not too terribly bad, but they do take some experimentation before you get the appearance you want. Pretty much, they have to be applied over a black sub-coat. I like their silver and gold when applied over black.

Haha...though, I have to say it's nice to see someone who won something in a Golden Demon contest using Ceramcoat. I have a hard time getting my local painters to believe in that manufacturer, but they're all totally up the behind of the paints you can get at the FLGS.

I'm just not rich enough to spend 5-6 times as much on paint as I have to.

Saldiven: yellow is a nightmare color on its own. It is great for brightenng colors but due to yellow lights propperties. But as far as opacity goes it is terrible. Red is also a nightmare color.

Back on topic, i use a combination of liquitex ( black, white primary colors and some flourescents) and a limited selection of vallejo and GW paints. I really like the P3 metallics they are the best as far as water based acrylics go. I use auto primer as a base coat to save money because i have never run out of anything but black/white.

I've had good results with reaper and Vallejo paints. As Luna said the dropper bottles are a godsend especially if you work in a warm/dry place. It saves so much paint in the long run.

After taking a long hiatus 10+ years from the hobby I've seen the drastic contrast in what GW used to sell and what they do now. The business model has severely turned to capital over quality.
