OK, so... Been getting my Blastmaster handed to me lately, other than some inspiring draws and a couple of decent pwns.
However after playing round with the v5 rules I still get gubbed by Eldar Cheeselords and avatars. So started going for a more shooty aspect.
But I figured I'd go back to basics and see what I would get out of staying clear of the slightly pricier funcy units.
So I've gone for Las Canons up the ying yang.
What do you reckon?
Would work out like this:
5 x units of 10 CSM with Melta + LasCanon
3 x Rhinos
Chaos Lord, Bike, MoN, Deamon Weapon
5 x Bikers, MoN, 2 Meltas
2 squads of 2 x Obliterators
Vindicator
Since I'm at work just now I can't remember the full amount. But that's roughly what it's looking at.
I'll no doubt go back to the legion specific units, but just want to see how 9 lascanons in the 1st round would do at taking down these guys. I'm sick of 2000pts getting owned by 300 odd points of cheese and letting paper armoured guardians pick up the scraps.
(And yes I know this probably admits that I'm rubbish at a game I've played for years, but hey, who's in it for the glory?)

Oh sorry forgot to mention, Ch + Pw for all CSM squads...

Throw my 2 cents into the mix.
I’d be inclined throw the lascannons in with havocs rather than the csm squads.
Or….
2 CSM melta/lascannon combos
3 CSM flamer(optional)/heavy bolter combos
1 havoc 4 lascannons
That way your lazzies can sit and pick daisies at objectives while taking pops at WLs and avatars. Best case scenario is you toast one WL a turn, but those other HB csm squads can start wasting the rank and file paper armour eldar.
The chaos lord biker squad is an good idea. But id give them plasmas. Much more versatile if they have to shoot an avatar before the lord charges. Remember the plasmas can fire the full 24 even if you move as bikes have relentless.
Still think the landraider/berserkers is a nice combo to include too.

Yeah I have looked at tweaking the units a bit and including havocs in there. But they do get pricey. Never been a fan of plasmas though, I should start using them. But S7 v T8 would still make a laz a better option imo.
beside's I'd end up forgetting that the havocs are Heavy and try and use them to take objectives. hehehe.
Will be playtesting it later Saturday Afternoon/evening anyway so will let you know how they get on.
more of a back to basics attempt to see what the troops can do.
have to see my 4K apocalypse list for full Dakka havoc glory.

@ Grumzimus
Cheeselords…far from it IMO.

You don’t want “pricier funcy units”, but went with generally pricey lascannons.
Unless you are playing IG with mass Vendettas, don’t rely on lascannons.
CSM squads with hvy weapons are not great, it looks cheap, but you MUST purchase the 10 man squad for it, so it’s effectively 165 for that one lascannon before other upgrades.
Lord is meh.
Bikers: meh. ICON of Nurgle bikers are gimmicky.
Oblits and vindis are ok.
9 Lascannons are not a lot.
If you had like……21……
Lets see 9 lascannons vs. Wraithlords (that really should be in cover or getting cover saves behind the Avatar or vehicles.
9 lascannons, 6 hit, 4 wounds, 2 after cover saves.
meh.
@ holidayhalflife
CSM with specials
Havocs with hvies.
Lascannon havocs are not cost effective.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Heheh, well.... Yeah Sanctjud you're pretty much right. It was pretty costly for the lascannons, though I tried it out at the weekend. (this shows that it's me that's the problem, not the CSM's) and they did OK. Though not great. Managed to cut right through his Wraithlord and Avatar by turn two, Lord waded through everything that he needed to as well so worked out quite well. However I'd then left myself with no idea what else to do once I'd completed operation, killy cheeselord/Avatar.
I've gone back to the list again to see what else i can take cause you're right, the Las option is not that necessary really. I've gone for a unit of havocs as well so that I can concentrate my high power las cannons to specific targets. I'll move back to the legion specific units and start seeing how they fit in. I'd always gone for close combat armies in the past so it's time to go test out the shooty or Tzeench options. Defo when my Space Wolf pal gets back from offshore.
But what would you suggest as a replacement for the lascannons? S9 is great against any mech unit or T6 WG, I've never been a fan of Plasmaguns. I've thrown in a few more melta units and will see how smaller more mobile units handle.
Like the idea of 5 x PM in a Rhino + 2 meltas. cheap mobile pests that will help draw fire away from the bulk of the shooty.
