Hey all, just wanted to get a sense of what the best strategies for taking on heavy armored vehicles (I'm looking at YOU Land raiders) with Da Boyz. Not a lot of high Str shooting above Str8, and with the poor BS of 2 (or 3 for grots) its hard to depend on shooting anyway. Or am I missing something obvious? Or is the best tactic to get a Warboss with Str10 hits with power klaw? Anyone else is gonna be Str8 (or Str9 on the charge).

Also, do power weapons give infantry any advantage against vehicles? I would think they should, if rending weapons get a bonus D3 Str on rolls of 6 to hit. Seems odd that a power weapon wouldn't give some sort of bonus as well, but I can't find one in the 5th edition rules unless I'm missing something big.

Thanks!

Because it's a vehicle, your klaw will pretty much always be S9 against it, so the Klaw is one answer, but not the best, still, it's worth it to try.

Zzap guns have the potential to crack AV14, but random strength is a serious nerf to what used to be the best gun for that sort of thing. The SAG also has the potential for breaking AV14, especially being ordinance, but it's AP2 is much better turned on elite infantry. (if you decide to shoot it at a tank, you have roughly a 50% chance of getting high enough strength to crack AV14, and that's assuming you don't scatter or zoink)

A Killa Kan squad can likely make a Land Raider innefective for either a turn or the rest of the game, same with Tankbustas at range. While the Rokkits can only glance, 3 bs3 Twin Linked rokktis (or 10 bs2 rokkits) can put the hurt on most tanks, even a land raider will be stunned shaken or imobilized by all those shots.

Tankbustas charging will kill any tank, imagine a squad where everyone has a meltabomb, and two guys have S10 mele weapons! The only downside is to get that close, they really need a ride (unless you wanna play "Pumpkin Scissors" ), but if you can get them one, they really are the best answer to heavy armor the orks have.

Edit: As a side note, I don't like the Deffrolla VS Land Raider idea. Imagine if you will, a wagon with a huge spiked roller crashing into the side of a Land Raider tank. Sure, the deffrolla might leave a hole in the side of the land raider....but the deffrolla would be stuck in that hole! And this is assuming that the rolla is well built, if it wasn't then KERUNCH, and you lose your deffrolla anyways.

I've taken out many a A 14 vehicle with a Nob with power Klaw (I had one Nob with it destroy a monolith at A'rd Boyz!!) But it's best in a Nob Squad. You don't want to try to tie up Big vehicles with Boyz squads.

But nob squad wit ha PK or two. Get the charge swing with the 4 attacks apeice at strength 9 . More than likely there wil be wreckage.

Sorry for doubling up on posts.

There is also the option for Deffkoptas with TL Rokkits and can put a Buzzsaw or two in a squad as well. That way there are benifits for str 8 shooting and str 9 charge assault.

Just a few suggestions from me.

Warboss - Give him a klaw, put him in a wagon with a boarding plank.
simply pull up along side and hit it with your S10 klaw attacks.

Tankbustas - throw a unit of 5 in a wagon with plank, give the nob in the unit a tank hammer and let him use his S10 attacks against it.

Knaz/Dreadz - Both kanz and dreadz are strong enough to do the job up close, but it will take some luck getting them there since the marine player will know they are a threat.

Zzap gunz - Not reliable by any means lol, BS2 on a wagon means it will rarely hit, and rarely ever do much, but atleast you have 3 chances of getting a max strength hit.
A unit if big gunz using Zzap gunz may work better, due to 3 Zzap guns being fired each turn, at a BS of 3 instead of 2.

Shokkattack gun - same as the Zzap gun really, but it should hit allmost every time against a land raider, allthough, it may turn nasty, or my work better lol.

Just my ideas anyway

The most reliable weapon for the job is a p-klaw at either str9 or str10 it is the strongest reliable weapon we can field. You just need to figure out a delivery system for it. In my army I presently run a WB on a bike and a 6man biker squad with a nob with a klaw. These have a host of tactical uses but generally they're there for tankbusting and they do the job just fine. Landraiders and monoliths give me troubles but, well, welcome to playing orks.

The only other delivery system is a squad of boyz in a trukk but that seems like a waste of pts to me as they're much better used to get the drop on enemy infantry. Ditto nobz mobz. MANZ maybe since a small squad is so cheap.

Kanz will do the job if you get close enough (possible with LRs and Liths usually actually) and a rokkit launcha helps out on the way in. Dreadz can do the same but are widely regarded to be inferior to kanz in almost all respects.

A kopta with a buzzsaw makes mincemeat of enemy devvy equivalents and most tanks but at str7 it can't hurt yer AV14.

A kopta or more usually a buggy with twin rokkits is good against many armies for its ability to move to the side and get side/rear armour shots. Excellent for dropping transports.

Lootaz own anything AV12 or less, theoretically. Mine don't like firing more than 1 shot each and on the rare ocassions I can bust through AV11-12 I manage to roll all 1's for my damage rolls. (this happened to me at a tourney the other week, grrrr rage).

Tankbustaz can do the job if you manage to give them a borrowed trukk or looted wagon but they are far to pts intensive as they're costlier than a bike squad or boss on bike for a less flexible unit. Their shooting is crap, focus on using the hammers and bomb squigs.

zzzzap gunz are a waste of time. The kannon is usually stronger than it on an average roll, has better range, is more fliexble and is cheaper. I sometimes spam kannonz in my lists for cheap anti-tank. It isn't reliable by any srtetch of the imagination but it costs sod all points to put 3-6 kannonz in a list and they're bound to kill something. If opponents decide they are a threat laugh at them and be thankful he wasted his time killing kannonz and not something essential.

I'm curious, people keep mentioning Tankbustas in trukks or looted wagons, what would happen if you put a maxed squad in a battlewagon that had two rokkit launchas on it? Move up 7", fire 13 rokkits, stand still, fire 14 rokkits...

Ok, so it's not optimal, but it's mobile and killy, not to mention the wagon is a big model, if your tankbustas hop out on the good side they may not even have to shoot a tank

Battlewagon gets hit on side armor and dies quickly. Tankbustas die to anything your opponent shoots at them.

Str 3 is doubled and THEN the one plus strenght is given, making it Str 7.
On topic, best way to kill is Warboss with Claw. Killa Kans also, but not as reliable (must get close + Land Raider Lascannons = dead Gretchin)
