Hey all, does anyone have any good recommendations for background music or sounds to have playing in the background during an =][=munda game, or really 40k in general? I am looking for sites or the like so I can make a few long play CDs or MP3s so there is some mood music for the games, sort of suitably tense and creepy without being too distracting, sort of like some post rock type stuff (Godspeed Black Emperor!, maybe some more instrumental techno, stuff like that). Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks!

Probably work

I like listening to the Groove Salad shoutcast station, though sometimes it gets a little too upbeat for a 40k game.

Just get a last.fm account. Pop in an artist/band and it will spit stuff back out that you probably would like.

I find martial music like Arditi and Kreuzweg Ost is very appropriate for playing 40k, lots of, marching, heavy drums and interesting samples

Seconded. Perfect music finder website.

I greatly prefer Pandora to last.fm, but in any case many games have background music that is suitably unobtrusive/atmospheric. Check out game soundtracks.

Go for the background music from the Fallout 1&2 computer games. Eerie, industrial but not really distracting.

There's a Civilization3 Fallout mod out on the web that has all of these tunes included so that way you can easily get the music.

On youtube now is the entire series of tunes from the soundtrack of the computer game Vampire the Masquerade; Bloodlines, including the ingame background musics for the different areas. It is dark and grim stuff, ideal for your games.

We normally use a film soundtrack of some sort. Exorcist space marines squad taking on three Illuminate with Flash Gordon playing in the background...fantastic piece of gaming

Oh, and the song A Light That Is Darkness and other songs by that artist are good background music.

Lord of the Rings soundtrack strikes me as being the right "Mood".

The score for Event Horizon has a good feel for dark techno-gothic settings.

I like the Dark Knight soundtrack and the Dawn of War II soundtrack. The DoW2 soundtrack is probably better for straight up 40k though, while the Dark Knight soundtrack is more brooding.

The Batman Beyond soundtrack is grim-dark semi-goth-techno. It's pretty cool.

Forever alone

Creepy:

I play it on loop during spooky moments in Dark Heresy and it makes the players shiver.

This one is pretty good for building the tension too, I find. It makes me think of an ambush for some reason.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
