When setting an oathstone, is it set for the rest of the game or just that combat?

Also with the oathstone, do I need 5 wide and 5 deep to get my rank bonus if someone charges my flank?

Does the rune lore ability give runesmiths/lords double the dispel dice?

Thanks for the help.

The rest of the game.

Not sure about ranks, I'm sure it acts normally

Can you list a page, please?

Unfortunately I don't have a new rulebook. But the dwarf army book is page 28 for oathstone and page 30 for rune lore.

I read it as the rune lore ability gives runesmiths/lords dispel dice like wizards ( lord = 2 dd and a smith = 1). I had just read another post where someone was giving a runelord 2 dd and 3 runesmiths 3 dd, then adding 5 more for the rune lore ability. Just wanted to make sure I am not doing things incorrectly.

Not sure about the rank bonuses, I think you need to be at least 5 wide to get a bonus, but if you are attacked in the flank is your unit now considered only say 3 or 4 wide so negates the rank bonuses? This would only be caused if your dwarf unit has set the stone though.

And thanks for answering my questions.

Hmmm...

Lord's generate 2, Smiths generate 4, so 1 lord and 3 smiths generate 5, in addition to the 4 they get standard.

2 for lord
1 per runesmith
2 for being a dwarf army
2 standard.

Ahhh..

No, if your unit is 5 wide, you get the bonus (Regardless of flanks, but this only applies to an oathstone, where a normal flank would not allow rank bonus)

P.S., no problem

Oathstones say you ignore falnk / rear charging, therefore you ALWAYS get your rank bonus regardles of what hits you.

You don't convert files to ranks etc as you are told that flanks don't count: you simply ignore that you've been hit in the flank.

Thanks for the info guys. I was going to make my units 25 strong to get the bonuses.

Do you think it is better to go 6 wide instead of 5?

6 wide lets you get more attacks in against a 5 wide 20 or 25mm unit, however it depends what you want the uinit to do.

If you expect them to stick around and mainly win through static CR, then 5 wide means you can have more excess ranks to soak up casualties for the same points cost, and if the opponent whiffs you will have almost as many attacks.

Multiple attacks units tend to do better wider, as they are looking to generate CR through kills more than just static.

Thanks that helped out a lot.
