I painted this guy a while ago, it's a bit untidy in places which I hadn't realised until I looked at the zoomed pictures, but otherwise questions and comments!

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

Very nice indeed.

I'd be tempted to do the following:
Pick the skull out in white or off white.
Highlight or detail the red on the stormbolter.
Try some free hand squiggling on the scroll/loincloth.

That's a really nice base btw, looks like autumn to me.

Thats the problem with a zoomed picture. Takes a mini you other wise love, and makes you cringe lol.

I like it tho, you did a pretty good job AND the barrels are drilled out!

That looks great !!

Aside from previous posters comments, I'd suggest edging or highlighting the blue / purple of shoulder pads. They look a little "flat" but that may just be a result of the camera flash.

I really like the parchment scroll. How did you do that?

Nice work and thanks for sharing it !!

Dheneb stone over chaos black, then a mix of blazing orange and bleached bone (to get the old bleached bone colour) and carefully apply gryphone sepia making sure it's thick in the crevases and thin on the rest You can then highlight with the orange/bone mix but I suck at highlighting

personally, i would make the chest details stand out more. at tabletop distance, a more visible winged chest skeleton would look better IMHO. otherwise, looks good!
