What do you guys think of this:

Sevvy
Heirophant
Devout
Devout
Max Flame Guard + UA
Max Zealots + UA
Paladin
Paladin
Vilmon

I prob. want a Choir, so I'd have to drop some guys from the units.

How does this compare to:

The old Zaal List I had:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/252467.page

I'm still deciding what to start, but I love the spell caster warcaster/warlocks.

Paladins+Vilmon are sooooo sexy model-wise, but I'm iffy about everything else.
Skorne are generally cool, but have funky Cyclops proportions and IMO ugly Krea.

What do you guys think? Palandins+vilmon enough to warrent a boost in the menoths' direction, or are they bad or something?

My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Severius will need an arc node, Choir, and maybe a Vassal if you can scratch the
points together.

Your options for an arc node are
*Guardian
*Revenger
*Blessing of Vengeance

I hate Menoth, I've only won one game against them and that was because I killed a choir by dropping a Behemoth Bombard salvo on their heads.

Choir is FTW in IMO.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

As above, at least one Arc-node and a Choir. Devout's aren't so useful with Sevvy as he doesn't need their spell ward.

Sevvy should avoid casting spells directly at all costs as he's very squishy (DEF: 14 ARM: 14).

I think you should replace one devout and a paladin for a redeemer. Death Sentence + Redeemer=BAMF.

Assuming he's also taking a Revenger and a Choir of Menoth that's a very good tactic. Three auto hitting POW 15 hits, four with a Vassal on board.

Good point. I'd also spend the few xtra points for the Blessing, if possible. The Old man really loves this Jack.

Should also consider MK2, though. Death Sentence isn't as powerful.

I knocked up this based upon the tips given:

Grand Scrutator Severius
Heirophant
Blessing of Vengance
Redeemer

High Paladin Darton Vilmon
Vassal of Menoth
Choir of Menoth (4)
Holy Zealots (8) & Monolith Bearer
Temple Flameguard (8) & Officer and Standard Bearer

499/500

I'd say this was short of a spare arc-node and something large and expendable to stand in front of Severius of but it's not a bad list.

Malfred raises a good point. It would be wise to take into account how it will play under MKII, I can't imagine many people will be playing MKI now.

Severius -6
Revenger 6
Redeemer 6
Reckoner 8
Full Choir 3
Hierophant 2
Temple Flameguard + UA 8
Sunburst 3
Deliverers 5
___
35 Points on the nose

In this setup, Severius is pretty exposed with no Gorman or Devout to
keep him safe from ranged attacks, but you'll be pushing the ranged
game safely with your jacks and Rocket Volleys from behind the Temple
Flameguard's Shieldwall.

And if the Reckoner manages to hit, well, then everything else is going to hit
as well.

I'd almost leave the arc node out of this configuration to include Vassals, Reclaimers,
and/or Wracks.

If you want to include Gorman:

Severius -6
Redeemer 6
Reckoner 8
Hierophant 2
Full Choir 3
Temple Flameguard + UA 8
Sunburst 3
Deliverers 5
Gorman Di Wulfe 2
___
31 points

Yeah, the Sunburst is a good addition, but pretty much ONLY with death sentence. I'd be careful with such a rangy list. It'll do a little better in MKII with all the upped RATs, but don't forget that the protectorate thrives on attrition of troops. I would almost say to drop the reckoner and replace with Castigator and a Reclaimer, in order to take advantage of all the souls that will be floating around. I've recently fallen in love with the little hooded guy, and in MKII, he acts pretty much as a Journeyman Warcaster for us! Check my math on these, though. You might need to shuffle around a bit; sorry, don't have the MKII points in my head, yet. It will leave you about 7 points over, I think, in MKI. You might actually be able to minimize the choir in this. You will really only need them to max the redeemer, and the Reclaimer will more than make up for the lack. Good luck!

Vacuum theory here:

Reckoner
Choir + Eye of Menoth + RAT5 = Effective RAT 8

Assault Move is chancy, though. Could leave him exposed.

Redeemer Fires, RAT 1 + Choir + Eye + Flare = Effective RAT 6 if it moved, 8 if it aims.

Sunburst Fires, RAT 5 + Eye + Flare = Effective RAT 8

6 Deliverer rocket volley, Rat 1 + Eye + Flare + Rocket Volley = Effective RAT 10

OR

3 Deliverers x2 rocket volley, RAT 1 + Eye + Flare + Rocket Volley = Effective RAT 7

Number shots you can concentrate onto a single Flared Target?

Reckoner, POW 13 + Choir + Eye = 2d6 + POW 16
Vassal Ancillary Attack with Reckoner = POW 16
Redeemer, POW 12 + Choir + Eye = 2d6 + POW 15, Perhaps twice.
Sunburst Deliverer, POW 16 + Eye = POW 17
Rocket Volley: Single POW 17, or two POW 15s

Average damage against ARM 20(assuming boosted Reckoner and Redeemer shots)

6+3+5+5+4+4= 27 points of damage.

Okay, maybe it's not enough to stop a heavy, hehe.

Ok, you've mostly convinced me. I might do you one better, though. Using your theory, maybe leaving the reckoner exposed is a good thing; since the greatest foe to this tactic is enemy hiding behind big, solid, "can't see me" stuff, the Reckoner might draw them out a little. I know that it's not something I want with in charge range of ME..
