I wanted to start an IG army, but wanted something a little different than Cadians. I'm too poor/Scottish to buy metal troops, and the Catachans look like they fell out of the ugly tree, hitting every branch on the way down. I really like the look of FWs Death Corps of Krieg, but I'm unwilling to shell out 30 quid for 10 men. So I bought a big ol' bag of heads from Pig Iron, and after trying out a few different ones, I've settled on their militia ones.

Here then, for consideration and measured opinion, are the first few troops of the Novyimir 701st Rifle Corps (and one Arbites, why not).

Still not sure what to do for the bases. Pig Iron also do versions with furry Russian-style hats, which I'll probably use on special weapon dudes or veterans. Fluff-wise, they're going to be very much like the Valhallans/Red-Army, with masses of troops acting as a meat-shield for the big guns. They're partially inspired by the Norts from the Rogue Trooper comics, hence the vaguely Soviet themes. Most of the comics were set on 'Nu-Earth', which Google assures me translates as Novyimir in Russian.
Anyway, always interested in opinions.

Cadian Body, Closed Helmet head from Pig Iron, Shotgun from SM Scouts and greenstuffed knee and elbow-pads. I'm officially the World's Worst Greenstuffer (TM), but those were easy enough.

Nice color scheme on the troops - I've been thinking about that scheme for my WWI-esque mechanized force.

I find Pig Iron almost as over done as the GW heads but still nicely done

Good looking guys, the Pig Iron always looks good with the guard. And hey, at least they aren't the new heads that GW put out....they look like mutated orangutans...are you doing your whole army with the Pig Iron?

I like it. It really makes the IG seem more of a mechanical force driving forward rather than individuals. I reckon' those'd look very organised on a table.

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?

Cheers. Yeah, I'm doing the whole army with them, there're enough variants to do command staff, tank crew, special forces etc. But the troops are going to be of the massed meat-shield infantry, march 'em into the mine field instead of risking the expensive minesweepers type.
