This is a little embarrassing, so I feel it is long overdue I do something about it. While my Nids are all glued to their bases, very few of the Sisters are (they are held into the base with a wedge of newspaper). Almost all are painted, but none are based: I really need to do something about this! The reason I have not done it, however, is that I cannot seem to find an effective method. I have tried simply gluing the tab into the slotta-base, but only a small number have large enough tabs to get away with this ---- most of them have tabs *far* smaller than the base. I have tried snipping the tab, putting some thin card over the top of the base (so the slot is not showing) and gluing to that. In most cases, there is so little touching the base that this has proven painful. One Callidus Assassin, for example, has only the tips of her toes on a single foot touching the base. I ended up taking a dried ball of green stuff, filed it into shape, pinned it to the base, then pinned the back of her foot to the ball. It adds a nice rock for her to leap off, but is way too much effort to take with the 99 other minis.

What is the best way to glue metal models to the base when the tab is smaller than the slot? This will be a particular problem with the Seraphim, whose tabs are 1/2 the size of the slot (in all dimensions) and, if snipped, there are two 1mm-thick pins I now have to attach to the base (while not lowering the model, as the rules allow my opponents to deny me use of them if I do that).

Try usng clippers to make a small kink in the tab, it should wedge in nice and tight with that.

All i do is place it on an old piece of wood, put the model in the base and then super glue it (wood stops surface getting damaged)

Once its dry i give it another coat of super glue.

Once thats dry i use GS to fill in any gaps, this also makes sure its a great bond and holds for years

If there's a noticable gap (the tabs are half the size of the base), I'd try and bend the tab slightly, as previously mentioned. I've had to do that on a few figures. Obviously, there's the risk you'll snap the tab though, so use it as a last resort.

Another more drastic option would be to remove the tab altogether and glue them to a standard base (not slottabase). However, this won't work for models like the Seraphim, so I can't really help you on those.

Another option is to cut the tab off entirely, and pin the model's feet to the base. This works really well for things like resin bases.

Pin them to resin bases or the GF9 magnetic bases.

If I'm using the slotta tab, I bend it a little with a pair of needle-nose pliers (so that it forms more of an arc, or even two arcs - instead of a straight line). I bend it enough that I have to force the slotta tab into the base, and then I put a drop of superglue where the tab and the interior of the slot meets up.

Epoxy resin such as Araldite.

It's tons better than Superglue for any significant join.

Im a big fan of pinning. If EVER your in doubt, just pin the basterd. Works rather well so far. My warboss is all pinned, every part and he has survived 2 shelf drops. (curse my clumsy hands lol) And since your talking about GS, is you accidently drill the pin hole to deep, you can just cover it up afterwards with GS

A small piece of paper towel or tissue stuck into the slot with the model helps too. The super glue will soak into it and make the whole thing solid. Just trim the left overs.

If I can't bend the tab to wedge it in, this is what I use and has worked great so far.

Stick the model in the base, fill bottom of slot with a ton of super glue? Having based a squad of sisters myself I really don't see what the problem is. If it's that much of an issue try filling the slot with greenstuff and then gluing the base in.

I just wedge a bunch of GS in there. Remember if Green Stuff isn't working your not usin enough of it.

I used greenstuff to secure my guard officers, and it's holding so far.

2 part epoxy resin, as suggested is fantastic.

Mix soime up run it along the tab put the model in the base, hold it and once it sets, the stuff is like cement, the beauty of it will be that it will/should entirely fill the slot in the base, so that model won't be going anywhere.

All my metals are stuck together using it, some are pinned on the more delicate joins where it may not always hold. Just remember to let the stuff cure a bit on the mixing pallete, so your not stuck holding the thing for 5 minutes.

LOOOOOOOOOOADS of superglue.
That's all I do, pour tons the stuff in there. It's surface tension will pull it all along the seam around the slotta in the gap, and will normally flow into the cracks under the feet too. I've never had any trouble with this method.

QFT

Once the GS is dry, file it down and add flock to the base.

Wow, I had not expected such a good response! Thanks a lot for all the advice. I would never have thought of bending the tabs (I just tried it on a couple and it worked perfectly), nor clogging the slot with glue/green stuff (I am from the `just enough to cover it' school of gluing). I will give each of these a try this weekend and see which solutions work best for me.

I just jam a little Greenstuff into the corners and put some over the bottom of the base to keep it in. Then I just sand it downuntil it's level.

Sounds like many of you do too much work IMHO.

I bend the tab and use a dab of superglue. To cover the slot, just use scotch tape and trim the excess, then glue sand over that. Fast easy and durable!

I break the tab off, and then just superglue the model to the base.....

sure, they break off occasionally, but I sometimes want to take the model off the base anyway to swap the base out.
